I went ahead and merged the articles for R160A (New York City Subway car) and R160B (New York City Subway car) into this article. There was some overlapping and duplication of content (for example, both the R160A and R160B are equipped with FIND displays, and the description of them was nearly identical on both old articles). ManOfQueens, it seems the last few edits you made to the infobox broke it. Now, I'm not great at infoboxes myself, so I simply did a manual revert to fix it. Yards: Assignments/Storage

There has been some disagreement among users as to where the yards these cars belong to. According to our source, the trains assigned to the C service are assigned to the East New York yard. However, this article uses the word maintained to describe the yards the cars belong to. The word maintained means kept or stored, generally referring to where the cars are laid up when they are not used, having nothing to do with which yards are capable of performing maintenance work on the cars. The word assigned generally refers to the yards to which the cars get maintenance work. While it is true that the 207th Street Yard is generally not capable of performing maintenance work on the R160's, during night hours, when the C service does not operate, the cars are laid up on the tracks of the 207th Street Yard and do not travel all the way back to the East New York yard (the same goes for the R32s on the J/Z). Therefore, either the 207th Street Yard should be added to the section describing yard assignments or the word assigned should be used in lieu of maintained. Assigned and Maintained are no different. Maintained has nothing to do with where they are kept or stored. C trains are stored in multiple yards- 207, 174 and Pitkin. (M Trains are stored in Jamaica too, yet 4 car R160s have never been considered to be "Maintained" there.) If such were to be added to each page, we would have to change a lot of car type pages for consistency. (R32s to Pitkin, R46s to 36th, 207th and Coney Island, R68As to Concourse, etc.) Maintained has never meant stored in any use I have seen, here or elsewhere. I removed the statement because it was simply wrong. If you want to add where they are stored, I don't see the purpose, but personally have no issue. However, if you do so, please use the correct terminology for such! (And, even if you were to make such changes- So far, the R160s have been running on runs "put in" from Pitkin, not 207.) However R32s should be added to ENY, as 12 are assigned there for maintenance purposes!(the rest of the R32s on the J are not. R160A-1 and R160A-2 are not actual designations.

The page being cited was written by two then high schoolers, Henry Man and Kris Datta. The nomenclature R160A-1 and R160A-2 are found on no source originating from the MTA itself. Most notably, they are not on the car assignments (http://www.thejoekorner.com/carassignments/index.html), nor are they on the car specification sheets(http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/caption.pl?/img/cars/sheet-r160.jpg), which are published in the Sansone book(https://jhupbooks.press.jhu.edu/content/new-york-subways). In general, if a designation does not show up on either of those, it does not exist within NYCTA.

My suspicion is that R160A-1 and R160A-2 originated as a misreading of R160B-1 and R160B-2 which are designations used on assignments to indicate Alstom and Siemens propulsion respectively. Because of the above I am removing the erroneous designations. 66.65.95.149 (talk) 22:00, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

I wish to add that I do not mean to imply that the work done on that page is sub-par. Mr. Datta made a very useful resource, which I am sure is why it has been hosted on Mr. Korman's website. It would be wise, and intelligent to call the R160B's the R160BA's for the R160B's equipped with Alstom propulsion, and the R160BS's for the R160B's equipped with Siemens propulsion equipment. Order of train bullets

I saw that for R160A, service is assigned to the C, J, L, M, and Z. Would it be better for it to say C, J, Z, L, and M? Just an idea for color matching, and most of the bullets are this way on the map. (GeneralPunger (talk) 13:58, 26 June 2015 (UTC))

Car Assignments

@Kew Gardens 613: if you do, you should give a short summary of some of the major assignment changes (i.e. don't mention that the R160s were tested on the A, B, D, and G trains, because that's unimportant, and also, don't mention the exact dates the services were changed). The C train assignments, and the temporary R train reassignment during 2013-2014, are probably the most important, so go for it. (Also, don't include the former V and W trains; we can add the W train back when it's reinstated, but it's not really important to have an exact history of that service.) We already have a reason for why the rolling stock change was made on the C (New York City Subway service) article. It is not new information. A quick update for you're information; As of February 24, 2020, the R160's fleet at Coney Island Yard has essentially dwindled down to only 210 Siemens equipped cars, and with 40 more cars being transferred to Jamaica Yard for the CBTC conversion for usage on the (E) & (F) lines very recently. The (F) line is essentially all R160's at present, and the (R) line is rapidly losing its R46's to Coney Island as well. These changes in cars reassignments are also ongoing, so stayed tuned. Just a quick update - as of March 10, 2020 only 70 R160BS's (the Siemens variety) are remaining at Coney Island Yard for service mostly on the (Q) line, with the (N) & (W) using whatever leftovers are available. New Update. There are at least twenty (20) sets of R160's both A & B types, and many Siemens sets assigned to Coney Island Yard are on loan to 207/Pitkin Yards, and are currently operating in service on the (A) line from 5:00AM until the line closes down at 12:30AM. Eight years ago, the R160A (New York City Subway car) and R160B (New York City Subway car) articles were merged here. I'm not calling for a revival of the two articles, but I am urging a split of the commons gallery with R160A and R160B images, partially due to the volume, and partially due to the distinction between the two of them.
