Talk:Quinqui jargon

"Citation needed" edit

I added this against the statement about the map of Spain because (I think) there is a logical step missing. At a glance at the map I can see two land-based migration routes to Spain, one via France, one via Morocco; I would only choose the Morocco route if I started out with the assumption that Gypsies had some link with Africa (but I don't think they have) or if I knew that Gypsies were in Algeria and Morocco before they reached Spain (and I don't know that). If that is the case, it needs to be stated in the article, I think; otherwise, maybe the sentence about the map of Spain should go? Andrew Dalby 14:16, 15 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

There was a map? -- Tomdo08 (talk) 18:07, 10 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Two articles edit

The article is a mixture of two separate articles, one for the Quinqui jargon, one for the Mercheros. The article should be split. -- Tomdo08 (talk) 18:04, 10 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

If someone put a lot of new information, I would agree, but with the current length I'd leave the page as it is. --Jotamar (talk) 17:02, 20 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
I agree with both of you. I'm here now because someone just created an article at Merchero, which had redirected here. Unfortunately, it was uninformative, not even mentioning who they are or where they live, and giving only one (unreliable) source, so, short of writing my own article after hunting for reliable sources myself, I reverted it to a redirect. If an article is created, it should be at Mercheros, per WP:ETHNICGROUPS. One possibly helpful source: https://elpais.com/politica/2018/01/15/actualidad/1516031343_620614.html. Quinquis Definitely Not Descendants of Moriscos edit

The older members of my family remember the "Quinquis", the travelling tinkerers, well. Most were quite pale or even very pale and quite a few were blonde and blue eyed. They were solidly, unmistakably of ancient European ancestry. There is no way that, as a group, they were of largely Morisco descent, regardless of what "some" may "think", that is, speculate. My mother is convinced that by their looks they were mainly of central European origin.Provocateur (talk)
