This would be a stronger article with a larger variety of citation authors.
This article states "Umbanda represented the more Europeanized traits of the religion, while Quimbanda emphasized black magic." but does not cite these statements. Please add citations for this statement.
If this religion is practiced in Brazil, then... how could it be an "Afro-American" religion? That doesn't make any sense, and it sounds like a racist categorization. [unsigned edit by anonymous user 24.58.35.49]
- Brazil is part of the Americas, and these religions (at least in part) originate in Africa. Perhaps you could suggest an alternate term for such religions? ntennis 08:20, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
- So why don't just call it African religion? If it is originated in Africa and it is practiced in Brazil, why say that it is "Afro-American"? In Brazil we say "Afro-Brazilian" (afro-brasileira). Ultranol 18:03, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- Afro-Brazilian is a common term when speaking about religion that has African origins and is practiced in Brazil. Afro-American is probaly a extension to encompass the other related religions established in the new world (Santeria, Voudou, Obleah, etc). Quimbanda is Afro-Brazilian (I don't think it is practices anywhere else). Calling it Afro-American just broadens the view, I suppose. Calling it just african would be misleading, as this would not reflect the fact that the african roots have been deeply altered.. --Qyd 19:12, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
