Talk:Queensland Cup

This article is fantastic. May all good will come to those behind this magic article of information. [[[User:Bradley1956|Bradley1956]] 00:15, 16 April 2006 (UTC)]

The decision that ultimately ended the Brisbane Rugby League did not come from the NSWRL as one would expect The usual non-NPOV carping though.

I've got rid of the grounds and former teams from the fact box with the Qld Cup logo in it, it was a bit of an eyesore, was to long and covered info that is discussed pretty early on in the article. Also replaced club logos with the colours from the nrl page. Steeden 06:25, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Aspley foundation date edit

Aspley was formed in 1967... it is simply their name that has changed to the Broncos for 2007. Should this be changed in the team info table? --dan, dan and dan 03:44, 9 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yes it probably should. I'll adjust the Norths and Easts foundation dates as well.

Article title edit

Why is this article called "Queensland Cup (rugby league competition)" instead of just "Queensland Cup". I could understand if there was more than one Queensland Cup, but there isn't. Searching "Queensland Cup" directs to this article anyway. Seeing "(rugby league competition)" as a suffix gives the impression that it needs to be differentiated from other Queensland Cups, but it doesn't. Also, few articles on wikipedia link to "Queensland Cup (rugby league competition)", almost all links are re-directs from "Queensland Cup". I don't understand why "(rugby league competition)" has been added. Article's titles should not be needlessly lengthy.--Jeff79 23:46, 13 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

The same goes for Winfield State League--Jeff79 19:03, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ditto for the Foley Shield (rugby league competition) article. It'd make sense to move them. Bongomanrae 15:27, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Let's remove the (rugby league competition) suffix. Article's titles shouldn't be needlessly lengthy.--Jeff79 18:09, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've moved the Foley Shield and Winfield State League articles. Bongomanrae 17:10, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Club info edit

I've removed the following text from under the table listing the current clubs.

  • The Mackay Sea Eagles applied to join the competition in 2006, and again in 2007, however the QRL rejected both these applications.
  • In December 2006 the Toowoomba Clydesdales pulled out of the competition due to financial difficulties, stemming from that fact that they were no longer financially supported by the Brisbane Broncos. In their place the Aspley Broncos were admitted into the competition.
  • It is widely expected that in the 2008 season teams from Mackay[1] and Cairns[2] will join with the backing of the NRL team North Queensland Cowboys.

Cairns and Mackay info edit

Thought this info might come in handy for the specific team pages down the line.

John O'Brien, owner of the Cairns Taipans NBL basketball team, along with Denis Keeffe, Nigel Tillet and John Moore met with the North Queensland Cowboys on 7 December 2006 to discuss entering a Cairns-based team out of Barlow Park 2008.[3] The team is to be known as the Northern Pride [4]

In 2006 Mackay unsuccessfully applied to be the 12th team in the 2007 season, they lost out to the Aspley Broncos. Mackay are putting together another bid to join the competition for the 2008 season as the Mackay Cutters.

Fair use rationale for Image:Queensland Wizard Cup logo.PNG edit

Image:Queensland Wizard Cup logo.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

PNG entry into Queensland Cup edit

Hi, all
I've removed this revision's content from the article. While I think it would be just great to have a PNG team in the Queensland Cup -- especially with a long-term view to including including a Kumuls team, analogous to the New Zealand Warriors, in the NRL -- I just couldn't find any verification for the revision's content. As always: please, please prove me wrong!
