Contradictory information

edit

The article says that "Her Olympic gold medal was the only medal won by a female British archer until Alison Williamson won the bronze in the women's individual competition at the 2004 Summer Olympics." But it also says: "The entire field competing in the women's archery were British." Thus one would assume that all the medals won in 1908 were by British archers, which is indeed the case. I suppose one could argue that Lottie Dod wasn't an "archer" or that Beatrice Hill-Lowe wasn't British (she was technically Irish), but at the very least, this would be confusing without clarification. And if we're splitting hairs by saying that Beatrice Hill-Lowe was Irish instead of British, it should not say that "the entire field... were British". Kaldari (talk) 04:13, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

The full sentence from the source is "Alison Williamson 's archery bronze was the first by a UK female since Queenie Newall in 1908" which is obviously false, since Dod was a UK female and won a silver medal. The sentence is poorly written anyway (Did Newall win a bronze or gold medal?) and should probably be removed or rephrased as "Williamson was the first woman to win a medal in archery since the 1908 Olympic games." Thanks for providing the source quote. I've fixed the wording accordingly. Kaldari (talk) 05:36, 9 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
