Regarding the screenshot

Regarding the screenshot: Using an image demonstrating a technical drawing might be better than showing a plot of 3d data, generated by another program. This confuses some people about the capabilities of the software.

Technically this isn't really free. The community edition is, but the "Professional" version isn't.

This program is free under the gpl, but no binaries are available. This source is available at http://qcad.cvs.sourceforge.net/qcad/src/ Family Guy Guy 16:30, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

The source _is_ the software. And the source is freely available. A computer user with enough knowledge can make a binary themselves. The makers of Qcad sell the binary because it's a nuisance to make one. Please correct me if I'm mistaken. --DuLithgow 07:44, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Distrowatch lists 2.0.5.0 as latest stable release. Is 2.1.3.2 unstable or not released under GPL?--Hhielscher 13:06, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

This software (the community edition) is an interesting case: the source was posted on sourceforge (as QCad and Qcad2) but obsoleted and redirecting to Ribbonsoft. Ribbonsoft does not seem to have any version controlled public repository around, no bugtracking system, they closed down the mailing list and redirect people to the forum where no real community edition support possible (and I mean community support, not by Ribbonsoft); so basically I do not see any possibility to go on with development, since it seems nobody cares. (Ribbonsoft is not the one to blame though, they are probably busy developing the professional version.)

In order to clarify the very different release schedules of the Professional Edition and the Community Edition I have split them into two separate Infoboxes. Since I am neither avid qcad user nor a developer with free timeslots I do not blame anyone, but if anyone would care to fix bugs or implement new features s/he have to grab the source and put it online in a repo, create a new mailing list and try to coordinate people interested.

I came to aware of all that because I was checking free CAD systems under Linux, stumbled upon Cycas (which is free for personal use and really nice) then checked qcad again and realised that some features just scream to be implemented, tried to find developers and realised that there isn't any. ;-) I hope someone will care. --grin ✎ 09:07, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
