Explodes without releasing fragments? edit

How does an explosion not produce shrapnel or fragments?
- An explosion may not produce shrapnel or fragments if there is no solid product. For example the ignition of a small amount of glycerol tri nitrate will produce a visible flash and an audible bang but no solid material.

deep space missions, edit
The article says:
- RDX / nitrocellulose: Gas generator, unsuitable for deep space missions, burn rate dependent on pressure.
