Vandalism

Someone has vandalized this page. The changes made seem really cheap. I would like to request blocking of that IP address - or, at the very least, warn him. how do I do it ? ~(its my wiki username, feel free to email me)

It seems a shame to put up a Neutrality Disputed banner without discussing anything first. I didn't insert "People's War" in there but I did clarify it by putting "Nepalese" in front of it. "People's War" is what the Maoists called it. A neutral name would be Nepalese Civil War. I didn't see anything about "democracy activists" in there. The statement "[h]e also said that the party had expressed its commitment to multi-party democracy" is in there. That's a factual statement. Prachanda and other top Maoists have said this repeatedly IIRC. They are in favor off the republic, professedly. Sometimes one detects a murmur of "at this time," it is true. If you want to put some skepticism in there, I'd say cite it and do so. You put the banner up, you can take it down. DanielM (talk) 16:55, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Prachanda joined the underground communist movement in 1981, at the time there was a royal dictatorship in Nepal, with no multi-party system and limited press freedom. The Nepalese communist movement worked to overthrown the dictatorship and establish a democratic state. The category 'Democracy activists' have huge pov inclusion problems, but as long as the category isn't CFD:ed, I don't see why Prachanda shouldn't be included. --Soman (talk) 13:01, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

It was a multi-party government that he declared war on in 1996 and the monarchy didn't become truly tyrannical until sometime in the last four or five years; correct me if I am wrong. I think he was rehabilitated somewhat by the fact that the monarchy got out of control and the Nepal people with the help of the Maoists reclaimed their country from it, but I don't think Prachanda should be described as a democracy activist or included in any such category. Suggest heeding Captain O's objections: remove the category, change People's War to Civil War, and take down the banner. DanielM (talk) 22:14, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

considering his new role as PM, I think a move to Pushpa Kamal Dahal might be warranted. Nowadays, he's referred to as 'PM Dahal' in Nepalese newsmedia. The underground days are quite definately over now. --Soman (talk) 16:31, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Criticism

This is a proposal to add a Criticism section to the bottom of the article. Like many topics on Wikipedia, espeically those involving countries, politics, war, and current events, there are some pointed criticisms that may not fit well in a chronological history but nonetheless are 'out there'. Though this section might one day be integrated into the main article, I think it would be useful, especially given the somewhat biased tone of the current article, which treats Prachanda as more of a political hero than a NPOV article should. Of course, criticism would have to be sourced and not mere name-calling or rumor-mongering.

I don't think the tone of the article generally treats Prachanda as a political hero, but some attention needs to be paid to the "public appearance" section, it's kind of "huh?". DanielM (talk) 20:29, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Page Move to "Pushpa Kamal Dahal"

The guerilla days are long over, and Prachanda is more commonly referred to by his surname "Dahal" today. Most major national newspapers in Nepal have moved from the revolutionary-sounding "Prachanda" to "Dahal". For instance, each of the three major English national newspapers regularly mention "Dahal" over "Prachanda". To see a bit for yourself, consider the following recent links:

It's mundane to post each link, but I have checked numerous Nepali sources and not a single one headlines "Prachanda" over "Dahal". The rare ones that do always happen to be Indian sources, which is a bit of a mystery to unfold. However, the point is that the usage of "Dahal" far outweighs "Prachanda" in media, academics, and, as an effect, in the popular culture. So, I see no reason to not move the page, which is currently entitled Prachanda, to "Pushpa Kamal Dahal". I just want to point out that you wrote Puspha rather than Pushpa. I am not a Nepal expert, but I have not seen it spelled that way anywhere else. Anderson Rawls (talk) 20:48, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
Oh, my bad. The correct spelling is indeed "Pushpa," as opposed to "Puspha." I have made necessary rectifications in this talk section and tried doing in the article page. But, for the article, it appears that the page Pushpa Kamal Dahal already exists as a redirect to this page, so I have added a tag for speedy deletion in the former page, and dropped a message in the talk page of one of the administrators.
