The lastname 'Purcell' is not Norman but a corruption of the lastname 'Thirkell' itself from 'Thorkel' edit
Purcell should more truthfully be spelt 'Thurcell' or somesuch but the thorn or þorn (Þ, þ) got mistaken for the letter p at sometime.
