The 'first/second/third generation' style is the preferred means of disambiguation in the article name. This is mainly because most Malaysians are not familiar with the model/platform code system. The use of model codes in the article name is limited to cases where no decisive consensus has been reached with regards to which models represent separate generations.

The Proton Persona is currently the only model affected. This is because in Malaysia, the 2016 Persona is labelled the second gen model, but abroad, the second gen Persona refers to the 2007 Persona instead. Proton has yet to make an official statement.

However, for the Proton Saga, there is no such dispute. Therefore, the 'first/second/third generation' system will be used, as this will prevent unnecessary confusion among readers.

In all cases, the model code(s) will be included in the infobox.
