I'm not sure if a promontory is the same thing as a "ness". Dictionaries seem to all assign an element of height to a promontory, but many of the nesses around britain have very little or no height at all. It seems the important element of a "ness" is it's lateral projection into the sea, but a Promontory needs to have an abrupt change in altitude. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewcgirling (talk • contribs) 08:13, 25 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
