Hormone or gene? edit

Can someone make it clear whether this is a hormone or a gene? Aelindor (talk) 17:29, 27 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Have modified the lead to indicate that the scope of this article is about the peptide hormone and the gene that encodes it. Boghog (talk) 18:17, 10 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Contradiction: Hormone receptor article indicates isn't hypothetical edit

This article claims it's hypothetical. The other article says it isn't, or at least that a prolactin-releasing peptide has been found, although it may be actually produced by the pituitary itself (and possibly not by the hypothalamus). Allens (talk) 17:31, 10 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

At one time, PRLH was hypothetical, but is definitely no longer after its cloning and sequencing. I have corrected this article and took down the contradiction banners. Boghog (talk) 18:16, 10 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Allens (talk) 20:07, 10 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

There are two issues mixed here: first, this article was linked from prolactin via a redirect as prolactin releasing hormone. This is what my old http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=PRLH&oldid=460509172 version did refer to. The peptide this article talks about now does exist since a few years but afaics absolutely no clinical significance was substantiated and in short it does not appear to be the releasing hormone that has been searched for some time. So I guess the article is correct as it is now but the prlrh link needs to be removed from the prolactin article. Richiez (talk) 21:28, 11 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Its no longer linked linked from prolactin, but from hypothalamic disease. For more info see PMID 18204826, as far as I understand it the function and significance of it is still very vaguely defined. Richiez (talk) 21:37, 11 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Renaming this article edit

I believe that PRLH is out of date and confusing as per PMID 18204826 which seems to be the latest available review and "Prolactin-releasing peptide" is much more appropriate name. Richiez (talk) 21:56, 11 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
