WSOF
editThis article described the WSOF as a separate organization rather than a rebrand, listing the founding date as 2018 instead of 2012. However, it still lists information from the WSOF as if it were just a rebrand. It's confusing. I suggest the WSOF be given its own dedicated section or separate article. - Hi @Camillefrancis:,
- I'll take a look at all these and welcome help from @HeinzMaster:.
- A couple of things before I do.
- It looks like you used curved quotes instead of straight quotes, maybe copying and pasting from Word, so your bolding didn't work. Also, you didn't sign your request.
- Additionally, if this is an edit request, you should add the Edit Request template to it.
- Want to make those edits and I'll take a look with HeinzMaster (if he's up for it).
- Ping me when you update.
- --FeldBum (talk) 03:57, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hey - updated the request per your feedback. Camillefrancis (talk) 19:12, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Camillefrancis: Will do! I'll take a look at it later today. Was also wondering if you guys have an official promo pic for the event tomm? HeinzMaster (talk) 19:17, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hey @Camillefrancis: and @HeinzMaster:, going through these and checking off what's been done. Agree with HeinzMaster; this page should have some pics. I'll check Commons. --FeldBum (talk) 16:28, 29 October 2021 (UTC)

Another Edit Request
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hey again HeinzMaster and FeldBum. Thank you for your continued help with my edit requests. I have a few last edits (for now) if you can help again.
- Under History > PFL, can you change “In 2017, MMAX Investment Partners, a group of Reston, Virginia investors, acquired a controlling stake in the WSOF” to “In 2017, MMAX Investment Partners, a group of McLean, Virginia investors, acquired a controlling stake in the WSOF.” See https://sec.report/CIK/0001694675 or SEC filings for a source.
- In the same section, remove “In February 2021, PFL announced a $65 million dollar financing round, which expanded its total funding to $175 million. The funding round was led by Ares Capital, Elysian Park Ventures, and Knighthead Capital and was intended to help the league expand internationally and accelerate growth.” We already have that in the Investors section, so it's redundant here.
- Add link to Ares Capital in that section
- In the partnerships section, add “In December 2021, PFL announced a multi-year partnership for its new PFL Challenger Series with fuboTV. Set to debut in February 2022, the new event will see fighters competing for a chance to earn a PFL contract and will incorporate a celebrity judging panel, a fan vote, sports betting and gamification.”
https://fansided.com/2021/03/18/fubotv-professional-fighters-league-team-special-programing/
- In that same section, add “In September 20202, PFL introduced a new series called “Inside the Season,” produced in partnership with the United States Marine Corp, that detailed the journey fighters go on through training, regular season, playoffs and championships. The series in narrated by John C. McGinley and airs on ESPNews.”
- In the Broadcast team section, add “The 2021 broadcast team includes Randy Couture, Kenny Florian, Sean O'connell, Lillian Garcia and Chael Sonnen.”

Camillefrancis (talk) 02:39, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
- Ping @Camillefrancis:, started on these, but looks like someone removed large sections of the page and folded most content into the History section. I'm cool with that structural change, but I think some of the content you want to edit isn't on the page anymore, so take a look and let me and other editors know what you want to add back to history. I'll take a look myself if I get a chance. --FeldBum (talk) 04:28, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
- Ping again @Camillefrancis: The previous editor just rearranged the page (and I think their reductions and rearrangement) make sense, so I left as is and added your edits--with edits of my own for clarity, grammar, POV and removing cites that were press releases--to the new page sections. All done. --FeldBum (talk) 21:55, 21 January 2022 (UTC)
- @FeldBum: Got it, thank you for your diligence and I will circle back if anything else needs updating for PFL. I understand why some language needed to be omitted or moved around. -- Camillefrancis
One More Edit Request
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi once more HeinzMaster and FeldBum. Thank you for your continued help with my edit requests! I have a couple more edits if you can continue to help.
- The intro is pretty long and I don’t think we need a line about a single fight there. It’s pretty redundant. Can we remove this line? Or move it to 2018 Professional Fighters League season?
- “The first season was headlined by a fight between Andre Harrison about Jumabieke Tuerxun and featured bouts in the featherweight and heavyweight divisions.”
- Under 2020–present, I made a mistake. It should say “In August 2021,” instead of “In August 2020.” The sources can stay the same, as they all say “August 2021.”
- In PFL Challenger Series, it says that “PFL Challenger Series is an American mixed martial arts promotion.” It’s actually a “series” as you can see later in that section and in the below sources. Can we change that?
- Under Event History 2022, it says “In September 2022, PFL introduced a new series called “Inside the Season,” produced in partnership with the United States Marine Corp, that detailed the journey fighters go on through training, regular season, playoffs and championships. The series is narrated by actor John C. McGinley and airs on ESPNews.” That was my mistake and should be “September 2020,” especially as September 2022 hasn’t happened yet. Can we change that and move it to the “2020” header?
- Source, if you need, is https://www.themix.net/2020/09/pfl-to-introduce-special-inside-the-season-series-by-the-marines/
- Under Fighter Signing, Claressa Shields was signed to PFL in November 2020 not January 2021. That was also my mistake. Can we fix?
- In that same section, Anthony Pettis was actually signed in December 2020. Can we fix?
- Some sources, if you need https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2020/12/mma-news-anthony-pettis-signs-with-pfl and
https://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/30589634/lightweight-anthony-pettis-pfc-agree-terms-sources-say
Also, I want to make pages for founder Donn Davis and CEO Peter Murray, who have both done a lot in the sports business space. How should I go about doing that?
Thank you again!
Camillefrancis (talk) 21:31, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Camillefrancis, I think the edits look good. It's mostly quick date changes. Not sure we even need the new sources.
- New pages are tougher. Davis, after a quick search, looks like he has a lot of cites and achievements, so I can try that one. If you have a list of articles or a quick bio, maybe through up a draft or replay here with some text.
- I didn't see much for Murray. I don't know if you've ever made a page before, but I would write a draft on your userspace (see Help:Userspace_draft) and then submit it as an article for consideration (see Wikipedia:Articles_for_creation) once you're happy with the draft. That will put it into a queue where other editors can review and see if it merits a real page. Once you have that draft (either in your userspace or in AfC), ping me and I can review. I hope that's not all too confusing. Reach out to me and other editors on this page if you need any help. --FeldBum (talk) 15:13, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you @FeldBum:. Everything looks good! Sorry again for the mixed up dates.

June Edit Request
editHi Again Editors,
Tagging HeinzMaster and FeldBum since they have helped me before!
Can you help me with a few more edits?
- Under “2020-present,” can we remove this line: “In March 2021, PFL appointed Tim Clyne as Chief Financial Officer and Jon Werther as EVP Strategic Partnerships and New Business. Clyne oversees all financial activities and Werther leads international expansion efforts and new business initiatives.” I don’t think it’s very relevant as the page and company grows. They are still with the company, but I just don’t think it needs to be on our page.
- Under that same section, can we add, “ In May 2022, PFL announced the completion of a $30 million Series E equity round to fund global expansion and its new pay-per-view division. Baseball player Alex Rodriguez was involved in the raise and joined the PFL board of directors.
- Sources are https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/19/alex-rodriguez-invests-in-mma-company-pfl-at-500-million-valuation.html, https://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/33943828/alex-rodriguez-joins-pfl-investor-board-directors-member, https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10036265-alex-rodriguez-joins-professional-fighters-league-as-investor-board-member, https://www.forbes.com/sites/anthonystitt/2022/05/19/alex-rodriguez-invests-in-professional-fighters-league-after-30-million-funding-round/?sh=78e91696f2a0, and
- In the “Restructuring and formation” section, can we add “After the restructuring, WSOF president and co-founder Ray Sefo joined PFL as President of Fight Operations. Sefo was previously a MMA fighter a six-time Muay Thai world champion."
- In that same section, change we make the following change: From “In 2017, MMAX Investment Partners, a group of McLean, Virginia investors, acquired a controlling stake in the WSOF” to “In 2017, MMAX Investment Partners, a group of McLean, Virginia investors, acquired the assets of the WSOF promotion.”
Thanks again for your help here!

- In the intro, can we:
- Fix the spelling of Hulu Theater? It’s currently spelled “Theatre”
- Change the opening line from “The Professional Fighters League (PFL) is an American mixed martial arts league founded in 2018, following the acquisition and restructuring of the former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) promotion in 2017 by MMAX Investment Partners” to “The Professional Fighters League (PFL) is an American mixed martial arts league founded by Donn Davis in 2017 and launched in 2018, following the acquisition and restructuring of the former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) promotion in 2017 by MMAX Investment Partners”
- In the History section:
- Can we rename the subsection “Restructuring and formation” to “Founding and WSOF acquisition”
- In that section, can we add the line “That group included Russ Ramsey, Mark Leschly, Ted Leonsis, Washington Nationals' owner Mark Lerner and Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin.” after the line ending “in the WSOF.” The source is https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2018/12/28/the-new-fight-game-how-an-mma-startup-wants-to-capture-the-sports-450-million-global-fans/
- After the line ending “Muay Thai world champion,” can we add these two lines? “In January 2018, Peter Murray was appointed CEO of the league. That year, in its inaugural season as the PFL, the promotion introduced a league model, the first MMA promotion to do so.” The sources are https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/other-sports/mma/pfl-boss-hails-league-format-26941876, https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Journal/Issues/2006/03/20/Forty-Under-40/Peter-Murray.aspx and https://www.bloomberg.com/news/audio/2021-04-21/pfl-ceo-there-s-room-for-more-than-one-leader-in-mma-podcast
- In that section, can we change “It was announced that the WSOF would be restructured as the Professional Fighters League (PFL), with the inaugural season taking place in 2018” to “It was announced that the WSOF would be restructured as the Professional Fighters League (PFL), with owner Donn Davis as founder and with the inaugural season taking place in 2018”
- Can we rename the next sections “2020 - 2021”?
- Can we add a new section called “2022 - Present”?
- In that section, can we add “In April 2022, games publisher Rival Games signed a partnership with PFL, its first with an MMA company. The deal was intended to create a gaming community for PFL and allow fans to host tournaments. In that same month, PFL signed a deal with social platform millions.co for group watching.”? The sources, in order, are https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Esports/Sections/Leagues/2022/04/Rivals-PFL-gaming-community-platform-tournaments.aspx and https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/pfl-millions-partnership-watch-parties-mma/
- Then can we move the line “In May 2022” through “board of directors.”?
- Then “That same month, Murray told the NY Post that PFL was coming back to New York City for its 2022 playoffs. The first playoff event will be held at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden on August 5, 2022.” The source is https://nypost.com/2022/05/24/pfl-playoff-event-coming-to-hulu-theater-at-msg-on-aug-5/
- Then “Later that month, Live Nation signed a deal with PFL to broadcast the 2022 playoffs in the UK, as PFL plans to host playoffs in Cardiff and London, following a first event in New York City.” The source is https://www.newsday.com/sports/mixed-martial-arts/pfl-playoffs-nyc-london-cardiff-2022-eqlnhvu8
- Next, “In June 2022, PFL fighter and two-time lightweight champion Kayla Harrison was nominated for an ESPY award.” The source is https://www.nytimes.com/2022/06/30/sports/kayla-harrison-pfl-mma.html
- Lastly, “In July 2022, PFL announced plans for a European league, starting in 2023. The regional league will be called PFL Europe.” The sources are https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Daily/Morning-Buzz/2022/07/14/PFL-Europe-to-launch.aspx and https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/pfl-europe-league-mma-2023-london-cardiff-live-nation/
- Can we rename the subsection “Restructuring and formation” to “Founding and WSOF acquisition”
- Can we add general rules to the “Fight format and point system?”
- “The PFL follows a point-based scoring system, consisting of outcome-based elimination, with a proprietary scoring and bonuses for an early win. Under the outcome-based scoring system, fighters compete twice during the regular season. Four fighters with the most points in their respective divisions advance to the playoffs. Fights are three-round bouts, and the winners are awarded three points. Bonus points are awarded for knockouts and submission wins. If a fighter finishes a bout in the first round, they are awarded three bonus points. Second and third-round finishes are awarded two and one points, respectively. If a fighter wins in the first round, they are awarded six total points. A second-round finish awards them five total points, and a third-round finish awards them four total points. The loser of the fight is not awarded any points. If a fight ends in a draw, both fighters are awarded a single point.” The source for all of that is https://www.sportskeeda.com/mma/news-how-pfl-scoring-system-work
- Then go back to “For example” until “Round 3: 1 point”
- Then “In the playoffs, the player with the most points is ranked number one and will face number four. The number two and three ranked players will face each other. The semi-finals are three-round bouts. The winners of these bouts will face each other in a five-round championship fight for a $1 million prize.” The source is https://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/26658315/what-need-know-pfl-professional-fighters-league
- Then this rewritten line with the same sources: “In 2021, PFL changed the playoff structure so that the top four fighters in each division after the regular season make the playoffs, a number down from the eight who made the playoffs in men's divisions in previous seasons.
- In the PFL Challenger Series section:
- In the first line, can we change “prospects” to “fighters?” They are all already fighters.
- Can we change the line that ends “featuring personalities in film, athletics and music” to “featuring personalities in film, athletics and sports.” We haven’t had any music personalities.
- Can we change “ Mike Tyson, along with NFL stars Ray Lewis and Todd Gurley, are just a few of the names who will decide who gets a shot in the league” to “In the 2021 debut airing of the PFL Challenger Series, the celebrity guest panel included NFL stars Ray Lewis, Todd Gurley and entertainers Jeremy Piven and Wiz Khalifa.” The sources are the same, plus https://www.fightbookmma.com/jeremy-piven-to-join-celebrity-panel-on-pfl-challenger-series/ and https://www.bjpenn.com/mma-news/professional-fighters-league/tyron-woodley-randy-couture-wiz-khalifa-others-to-serve-as-special-judges-for-pfl-challengers-series/
- Then can we add “The inaugural PFL Challenger Series streamed on FuboTV and Fubo Sports Network from February 2022 to April 2022.” The source is https://nypost.com/2021/12/09/pfl-challenger-series-coming-to-fubotv-starting-feb-18-2022/
- In “Roster,” can we start with this line? “For each season, the PFL roster begins with 72 fighters in six weight classes: five men’s weight-classes and one women’s weight-class. In addition, PFL signs fighters to development contracts from the PFL Challenger Series. These fighters appear from time to time as alternates in the league season or as showcase fights opening the league events.” The source is https://www.forbes.com/sites/brianmazique/2018/04/16/professional-fighters-league-pfl-mma-format-roster-schedule-and-free-tv-model-revealed/?sh=1f7bf44c401a
- Under “Broadcast team,” can you add “The 2022 broadcast team includes Couture, Florian, O'Connell and Garcia.” The source is https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/events/87837-pfl-2022-6-regular-season
Thank you again for all your help!

- Hi @Camillefrancis,
- This is a lot, but going through it. Some notes and what I've done so far:
- Thanks for the tag, but please remember to add the Edit Request template so other editors see this request too
- Did the first few edits with some tweaks, otherwise they seemed a little redundant. I don't see any issues with your cites or requests so far.
- Your citations are all good, but double check with the small edits that we need more sources first. The page is already getting pretty heavy.

- Hi @Camillefrancis, I did most of these (with some edits and changes). I also changed tenses to past tense for previous seasons. Where I could, I used previous cites, since the page already has a glut of citations. For anything else, let's try to use existing citations where we can. I'm not sure I understand your request around Fight format and point system. Is that first line meant to be added or to replace something on the page? --FeldBum (talk) 06:40, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for your help FeldBum. I’m very happy with all the edits you made!
Sorry if I wasn’t clear on the Fight format and point system section. This is what I meant:
The first paragraph, “The PFL…single point” should go after the line ending “that bout.”
Then can we have the lines “For example, if a fighter wins a fight in the first round, the fighter will receive six total points. A win by decision doesn't earn bonus points.” which are already on the page, using the same sources? Then the bullet points about how points are scored.
Then can we add the line “In the playoffs, the player with the most points is ranked number one and will face number four. The number two and three ranked players will face each other. The semi-finals are three-round bouts. The winners of these bouts will face each other in a five-round championship fight for a $1 million prize.” using the ESPN source already in that section?
Then the existing line “In 2021, PFL changed the playoff structure, the top four fighters per division after the regular season will make the playoffs, a number down from the eight who made the playoffs in men's divisions in previous seasons.” with the same ESPN source.
Then a slight rewrite of the next line to In the women's lightweight division, the top four fighters make the playoffs similar to the rules in 2019. The four fighters who make the playoffs advance directly to the semifinals in each division.” It can use the same source.
Lastly a rewrite of the existing line about quarterfinals to “There are no quarterfinals, nor a situation where a fighter must win twice in a single night.” using the same source.
Let me know if that works or if you need more explanation.
Thank you for your help!!

- A little confusing, but I think I got it all. I'll make this done. --FeldBum (talk) 16:57, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
