Updates edit

I am continuing to update this article. I created this article and added sections including the lead section, description, distribution and habitat, life history, food resources, mating, and interactions with humans. I intend to add more detail in the description and behavioral/mating sections, specifically in regard to sexual dimorphism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.252.110.161 (talk) 18:50, 13 November 2019 (UTC)Reply

Overall a good start! You have a few empty sections with heading in line is exciting, but maybe keep them in your sandbox instead of publishing them before they are finished. I noticed that the first sentence in the Sexual Dimorphism section includes a quote but no citation at the end - please indicate where the quote is from so that readers can refer back to the primary source. Additionally, you are citing other Wikipedia articles instead of linking them (for instance Piophilidae). If you are citing the information on that page without mentioning the page, it might be better to just go to the reference of that page and cite the information you need. One thing really interesting about this fly is sexual selection. I would suggest devoting an individual section/paragraph to that. Hope this helps! The article had improved greatly since just a few days ago. The addition of multiple headings points the article in a interesting/intriguing direction and if they are all completed would make a worthwhile article. A few constructive criticisms would include the addition of photos. I understand at times it may be hard to find photos of a specific insect, but the addition of such would bring your article to life. Added on to this, the article may be easier to read with less headings and more subheadings. This is more of a personal preference. But I'm looking forward to the future edits to this article! Thank you Alice and Stanley! Chickfilkay (talk) 20:02, 8 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Great start on this article! I have edited to improve grammar and phrasing throughout the page (rephrasing quotes, expanding on certain items, general corrections to make things clearer), as well as adding a couple more sections and some facts from some of your sources. Hope this helps! EllyGrant (talk) 19:16, 15 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

This is a great start to the article as it covers a good amount of information! As for the changes I made to the article, they were mainly stylistic/grammatical and adding a couple of hyperlinks to terms such as carrion, ovule, and oviposit. As others have mentioned, however, I feel that it can be made better by adding more sections or in general elaborating on current ones. One suggestion would be to expand and possibly create a subsection for courtship that would include what the male does to make it easier for a reader to find for someone interesting in that aspect of mating. Similarly, for the “Male Combat” section I would recommend elaborating on combat behavior. For instance how they challenge and if they asses their competitor? Is there signs or instances in which the fly has been shown to refrain from fighting certain individuals? Also, I am not sure if it was mentioned in the article cited but I was wondering if there was a reason for a bias for females in the “Life History”. Once again good job overall! I hope my suggestions were helpful.Srivera2019 (talk) 03:14, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Good start on this article! I fixed the formatting, font size and capitalization of the headings and subheadings. I also edited the article for grammar, punctuation, and conciseness. In the lead section, I made the sentence about eleven species in the genus Prochyliza less awkwardly worded, and I corrected the typo of “dimorphism.” I also added a summary of the rest of the article in the lead section to make it a more inclusive overview of the article for the reader. The “Cheese Flies” article from Preferred Pest Control was listed four times as separate sources, so I consolidated the in-text citations into one reference for this source. I think the mating behavior of this fly species was well-covered. In the “Sexual dimorphism” section, I deleted the first sentence stating the definition of sexual dimorphism and the link the the Encyclopedia Britannica article because I felt it was unnecessary to add specifically to this fly article. Last, I edited the first sentence in “Male combat” for clarity. I hope my edits were helpful. Listephanie (talk) 04:47, 18 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
