I think the definition is wrong edit
Leading someone down the "Primrose Path" is similar to "being lead down the garden path" the latter probably being a bastardization of the original Shakespeare quote. Being lead down the garden path more suggesting a person was deliberately deceived or gulled.
Primrose Path...
"A course of action that seems easy and appropriate but designed to end in calamity."
