Term of Presidency?

Why is his term listed as from 1800 to 1810? He was president until 1808 (1809 including up to the inauguration of the next president). Also, there is no mention of him doing anything in this article in 1810 besides the term end of his Secretary of the Navy. Raj O Mac 18:56, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Continuation of Federalist Policies?

orphan paragraph

I came to the article to correct the misspelling of separation but the paragraph below was just tagged on to the end and isn't particularly well-written so I commented it out. The separation of church and state didn't occur during his presidency though he may have had much to do with it being written into the constitution. Also the last sentence doesn't really make sense. But if there's anything in there that needs to be incorporated into the article please do so.

Thomas Jefferson also had many other accomplishments in his presidency. He gave us separation of church and state, while Adams and Hamilton pushed for a state government. He also expanded trial by jury. The Jeffersonian democracy helped give the states their rights, while still keeping a strong central government, and kept close tabs on the South, who was growing in oppression, and needed to be mandated because of crimes, slavery, and other bad politics and injustices. Adding additional information

Tecumseh's War

The "Native American Relations" paragraph says that Tecumseh was leading raids in Ohio as Jefferson assumed power (either 1801 or 1805, it is unclear which). However, the only conflict led by Tecumseh I know of was in 1810 over a treaty signed by William Henry Harrison (the governor of the Indiana Territory). Andrew Jackson stepped in even later than that in the war of 1812, 3 years after Jefferson left office. Why are these instances, concerning events that took place after Jefferson's presidency, noted in this article?

List of legislation

I propose that this page, and all other pages about the Presidencies of our Presidents, should have a list of the most important legislation signed below the prose like exists for Washington's page among others. Jefferson and slavery

There was an edit that added the phrase "He also freed the slaves." I removed this edit becuase it was not Jefferson that ended slavery, it was the Thirteenth Amendment.

Merging first and second inauguration with Jefferson's presidency

Sounds like a good idea to me; the two inauguration articles are so short they are not significant, and should definitely be merged with the Presidency article. Were the events even important enough to devote this much space to? Parkwells (talk) 12:23, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Jefferson's inauguration addresses are rated very highly by nearly all historians - they are probably both up in the top five US inaugural addresses ever. "Every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle" should arguably be the motto of Wikipedia. Anyways, they have both attracted massive amounts of commentary and analysis, and it is certainly possible to write fully-fledged articles about them. So while I'm not strictly opposed, I'd be reluctant to merge them. But of course "error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it." ;-) --Stephan Schulz (talk) 14:31, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

It seemed that the two very short articles were not worth supporting among the various spin-off articles for Jefferson. I don't have any objection to leaving them as is but in their current condition they aren't very helpful for furthering information on TJ. I suppose removing the links to the inauguration articles from the main TJ article is one solution. I often hear the argument about "they would be good if expanded" but seldom do I see such articles expanded. Brad (talk) 22:53, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

As noted in my comments on the Talk pages of both inaugurations which I posted before I realized the discussion was pending on this Talk page, I oppose the merger proposal due to the existence of separate articles on almost every other U.S. presidential inauguration as noted in Category:United States presidential inaugurations. --TommyBoy (talk) 06:32, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

I oppose merging at this time. The events (inaugurations) are notable and while the articles are short, they are slightly longer than stubs and can also be expanded. There is a proposal from Brad101 to reduce the length of "Thomas Jefferson" article in the Presidency section to about half its present length by transferring information to this article. Grammar in Introduction

The last sentence of the second paragraph is a fragment and doesn't make much sense. Can this be clarified/fixed? Text says: "At first aided the slave revolt that achieved independence in 1804, but then turned hostile." There's no subject to the sentence, and adding in a he just doesn't completely explain the next clause. TARDIS411 (talk) 16:07, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

Admin help requested

There has been persistent vandalism to this article today but now it has extended to this entry for Jefferson's nonexistent 3rd Inaugural address Wikisource: here. Per this quote at [1] "During his eight years as president, Jefferson delivered two Inaugural Addresses." I cannot figure out how to nominate things for deletion at Wikisource. Please help.
