this article is not a discution bord, and must remain neutral. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.231.53.139 (talk) 20:14, 11 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Page already looks like a news article rather than an encyclopaedic reference Brightonjon (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:30, 11 May 2010 (UTC).Reply

Merge proposal

edit

This could only be temporary. Look at Cabinet of Gordon Brown and Premiership of Gordon Brown: these articles do different things, and we would want to split fairly soon after any merge. Charles Matthews (talk) 16:41, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I do not see any point in merging them. Snowman (talk) 18:00, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Neither do I. Each article will develop in its own way with different pieces of information as per the ones about Brown's premiership. TheRetroGuy (talk) 18:37, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't agree either because they are both on different subjects.

They do indeed seem to cover different subjects, as per the Brown articles. Since this seems to be the consensus, I'm removing the merge tag. Vl'hurg talk 13:40, 17 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Picture

edit

The picture is confusing as the BLP and this article are carrying the same picture, I had a look to remove this one and replace it but there was only a three year old picture. Does anyone know a decent recent picture we can change to? Off2riorob (talk) 18:07, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree we should find a different picture. The one used at the moment was the most recent available at the time, but we should have one taken since he became prime minister. TheRetroGuy (talk) 21:04, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes. I didn't find one to add but it is fine for the time being, if anyone is good at searching for pics, anyway...I imagine we will find one soon enough. Off2riorob (talk) 21:06, 27 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Just found this image of Cameron on Commons, taken on 7 May 2010. Appears to be the most recent one we have. If someone can crop it and we're allowed to do that then it could be used as the main picture for this article. TheRetroGuy (talk) 18:34, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Done, if you like it I thinks its OK and allows differentiation between this article and his BLP. Off2riorob (talk) 20:22, 13 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Fantastic. Looks great. Thanks for adding it. TheRetroGuy (talk) 11:43, 14 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
My pleasure, I like it also. Off2riorob (talk) 12:30, 14 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Parliamentary protocol

edit

Just wondering why we have a paragraph about him breaking parliamentary protocol. He's been reprimanded twice, but he seems to do it almost every week in some small way - addressing MPs directly instead of the speaker, for example. Speaker Martin would regularly reprimand him for this while he was opposition leader, so I'm not sure it's that important. Any thoughts? TheRetroGuy (talk) 17:26, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Addition is related to the removal of the content from the main BLP which I reverted and suggested discussion which has not started as yet, so the content is still also in the main BLP and is duplicated here. I would support inclusion of the book waving incident in at least one location as that is particularly noteworthy of that type of issue, to actually have taken a book in the chamber with him and threatened to quote from it is unheard of, imo. Feel free to remove it from here altogether as it is simply duplicated content. Off2riorob (talk) 18:03, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'll leave it in for now as I agree with you that the book waving incident is unheard of. I've not seen that happen before at PMQs. Nick Clegg quoted from Blair's book on Wednesday, but I don't think he actually waved it around on that occasion. Not certain though as I was listening to it on the radio rather than watching it on TV. Thinking about it, I suppose it's possible we could eventually include this in a section about criticism of Cameron. Perhaps mention it along with incidents such as his statements during his trips to the US, Turkey and India over the summer. He's bound to commit more of these gaffes. TheRetroGuy (talk) 12:20, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Also it's probably better to include it here than in the main David Cameron article which is very long and cumbersome to load and edit. As his time in office progresses we'll get a better idea of what information needs to be included, and where, as well as the direction in which to take this. If I'm still around on Wikipedia when Cameron's time as prime minister comes to an end (which I hope be) I'll try to get everything into order as I did with Premiership of Gordon Brown, but that'a few years into the future I think. TheRetroGuy (talk) 12:29, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

First year

edit

I've split the first year section into smaller subheadings covering each subject because it was becoming rather cumbersome to edit. Having worked on the Premiership of Gordon Brown article I know this is potentially going to contain a lot of information by the time we get to the end of the Cameron premiership (and if he wins the 2015 election then it will expand even further). Not everything will be relevant in time and we'll have to consolidate what's there to include the main points of his time in office. Any thoughts? List of White House State Dinners

edit

Include article on White House State Dinners.

For example speech at Cameron dinner:

"Barack understands that the means matter every bit as much as the ends. Yes, America must do the right thing but to provide moral leadership America must do it in the right way too," Cameron said during a toast at the White House state dinner in his honor, according to a pool report. "The first president I studied in school was Theodore Roosevelt. He talked of speaking softly and carrying a big stick. That is Barack’s approach, and in following it he has pressed the reset button on the moral authority of the entire free world."
Cameron also hailed Obama’s wisdom, saying he has not rushed into picking fights but has stewarded America’s resources of hard and soft power. He has taken time to make (inaudible) decisions drawing down troops from Iraq and surging in Afghanistan. He’s found a new voice for America with Turdi, his White House assistant. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.58.161.37 (talk) 15:29, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

will seriously compromise British defense capabilities

edit

I put that in quotes, because it is a quote from the article, if not attributed to a third party. Hcobb (talk) 21:54, 13 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

The way it was before was as if it was fact since it wasn't attributed. I was going to attribute it to the publication but I have no idea how notable it is so I decided not to. If you think it's notable then I have no objection to attributing it to them, or a generic "some" if you think that source it reliable enough to make that claim. Govgovgov (talk) 02:48, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
There's been loads of coverage of the issue. (Just not here.)

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/24/world/europe/24allies.html?_r=0 British Cuts to Military Concern U.S. Officials

So I think it is a bit beyond a single source harping about it. Hcobb (talk) 03:27, 14 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

I have removed multiple sections that have been copied directly from online news articles, mostly from the Telegram. As there is likely more copyrighted material on this page, I have tagged it as a Copyvio until the issue can be resolved. --Hirolovesswords (talk) 00:09, 18 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

This is probably the worst case of serial copyright issues I have ever seen in a single article, and after the years I've put into copyright work that's saying something. :/ An unstable IP pasted content from sources into this article for literally years, starting in 2010 and ending in 2012. Earlier efforts to remove this content have sometimes seen it swiftly returned. I think there's a real chance that this article will have to be semi-protected. I would hope to avoid rev-deletion at this stage to give people an opportunity to look in the history at least for sources. :/ --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:38, 19 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Rift with the EU

Is there a better source for this? Hcobb (talk) 10:26, 26 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Economic issues in the article's lead section

edit

It seems rather clear that some kind of mentioning of what's happened to the economy as well as what Cameron has stated about it should be in the beginning of the article... but I don't really know what exactly should be added there. Thoughts? CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 07:01, 16 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Brexit

edit

Well, time has passed, but the lead needs more work, particularly to mention what's been going on lately. CoffeeWithMarkets (talk) 20:33, 24 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Urgent work needed on the section about his second term

edit

The referendum section urgently needs work. I've added several templates and fixed a bit of the punctuation, but I think it could do with a serious rewrite. It needs more information about the lead-up to the referendum instead of so much information about the aftermath. I will try to do some of this editing myself when I have time, but I know it'll need a lot of effort. It's very confusing at present and some of the information should be moved (e.g. the tribute to him should go in a new section called 'Reactions to his resignation'). Besides, I think it's poorly written and confusing. I've added various tags to provide specific examples of my concerns.

I also feel that the whole section needs expansion. The only things covered are the Budget (in bullet points, with no analysis or effects) and the referendum (and I've already covered the problems with that section). Much more happened in the year-long period. I plan on rewriting this myself, but my life is quite busy so I would definitely appreciate help. I've been adding templates to show where there are issues.N Oneemuss (talk) 17:25, 25 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Post-Premiership

edit

With the news today of Cameron taking the job as Foreign Sec, would it be appropriate to create a Post-Premiership section on this article? Michaeldble (talk) 18:22, 13 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
