Duplicate information

edit

It would seem that this page and List of premiers of China are basically the same thing. Shouldn't this be deleted? MagnoliaSouth (talk) 14:17, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, they're not the same. List of premiers of China is a disambiguation page that links to both this page and to List of premiers of the Republic of China (which we also call Taiwan). Hmoulding (talk) 15:26, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

doesnt this translate better to "First Citizen"?

Re: chart of list of premiers

edit

i think that the chronological chart of the list of premiers is difficult to read and also a lot bigger than it needs to be. There have not been many premiers of the PRC, so a list should do fine.

I think there's something wrong with the dates and names. The dates on the pictures are not consistent with the dates in the chart. Hmoulding (talk) 15:22, 10 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

time period served by premiers specfied under pictures does not match with chart list

Changed politburo statement

edit

I changed the statement about the Premier being nominated by the Politburo, because it's more complex. Party elders and people not formally in the politburo have some influence. Also, it's not the current politburo that matters but the previous one.

National People's Congress

edit

Does the Premier have to be a member of the National People's Congress before being pikced as the premier, or can he or she be a party member elected from without/outside the congress? This would probably be something that should be made more clear on the page. --Criticalthinker (talk) 05:51, 23 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: Moved. (Note: Since the Vice President of China disambiguation page is now unnecessary, I'll swap and redirect it. Its history can be found here.) (closed by non-admin page mover) SilverLocust 💬 23:00, 23 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

– Per the recent move of the President of the People's Republic of China article to the President of China. When people are searching for the "premier/vice premier/vice president of China", they are most certainly searching for the premier/vice premier/vice president of the PRC, meaning WP:COMMONNAME and Wikipedia:PRIMARYTOPIC applies. • Oppose move, but neutral on redirect while adding appropriate hatnotes. That is, I think the articles should stay at the current titles, and the action should take place at the current dabpages. Vice President of China is not a useful dabpage, with only two links and no extended information, so it could be redirected to Vice President of the People's Republic of China, with a hatnote there linking Vice President of the Republic of China. Vice Premier of China already works like this. Premier of China could be moved to Premier of China (disambiguation) (currently a redirect), and the title without the parenthetical could be replaced with a redirect.
I don't personally feel PRIMARYTOPIC is necessarily met here, and I don't think it's particularly responsible expand our naming of the PRC as the only state that uses "China" in its name, granting that the Republic of China enjoys only limited recognition amongst other state actors. I'm not sure if there's a policy about that: I'm not particularly experienced in requested moves. Folly Mox (talk) 17:52, 13 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
My reasoning with the page moves is that these days, virtually no one refers to the Republic of China as just "China." You can see this in the new ROC President Lai Ching-te's inauguration speech last month, where he refers to the PRC as just "China." Similarly, in an interview with Time, Lai again repeatedly refers to the PRC as just "China." I would also note that the "Premier of the People's Republic of China" is referred to simply as the "Premier of China" among many WP:RS, as can be seen from here: 1 2 3 4. Likewise, the same is true for the Vice President of China 1 2 and the Vice Premier of China 1, 2, 3.
I also think not moving these pages after moving the "President of the People's Republic of China" to the "President of China" breaks WP:Consistency in article titles. The Account 2 (talk) 08:25, 14 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • Support per WP:COMMONNAME and WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Some evidence from Google Scholar results:
    • Premier:
      • 303 results for "Premier of China" "Li Keqiang"
      • 37 results for "Premier of the People's Republic of China" "Li Keqiang"
      • 1 result for "Premier of China" "Su Tseng-chang" (and the single result seems to be a mirror of the Wikipedia article Wellington Koo)
    • Vice President:
      • 109 results for "Vice President of China" "Wang Qishan"
      • 24 reults for "Vice President of the People's Republic of China" "Wang Qishan"
      • 0 results for "Vice President of China" "Lai Ching-te"
    • Vice Premier:
      • 12 results for "Vice Premier of China" "Han Zheng"
      • 2 results for "Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China" "Han Zheng"
      • 0 results for "Vice Premier of China" "Shen Jong-chin"
