How was it redundant? Even if it wasn't the best definition, it was a start. Instead of deleting it you could have discussed it first because now articles like the unconscious article that link to the preconscious article will go to a blank page with no definition of what preconscious is. I though having at least some definition would be better than none at all as long as the definition was fairly accurate which I am confident it was. Furthermore, where is the "analysis of dreams" article you speak of? I found one that I think was called "interpretation of dreams" if that's what you meant, but I really don't think it was a whole lot to do with preconscious. Jamesters 04:45, 12 June 2006 (UTC)

I think this deserves its own brief article. People might look it up, wanting a short description/definition but not wanting to sift through a whole page on Freud. The term also gets dropped occassionally outside of Freudian literature.

Other Meanings

I have been studying human perception lately, particularly color vision. I keep running across the term preconscious perception. It usually means something along the lines of initial impression, before any conscious thought occurs about what is being perceived. I could not find any relevant page, and i am not a psychologist, so i am posting here to see if anyone here knows more than i do, and if this subject merits it's own page. Discussion of status

The article needs some discussion of the status of the idea in the field of psychology. People above mentioned Freud himself abandoned the concept; what does modern psychology think of it? -- Beland (talk) 19:20, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

Freud didn't 'abandon the concept'. The later 'structural model' is a different segmentation of the psyche, but the Cs, Ucs, Pcs division remained and remains in use in various contexts. Pfistermeister (talk) 13:54, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
