For Those Who Will Follow

Hi, Lugnuts. Just noticed your name in the Afd for the Nintendo forum. Just wanted to let you know I did some updates and corrections on the For Those Who Will Follow article, including a rename. It's a film I know rather well. Anyway, it's all there in the article, with sources. I'll also add a synopsis and add some context about the film's importance in the cinema direct movement -- and de-internal link the "cast" names -- when I get a chance. These were villagers in Île aux Coudres playing themselves: I don't think there any chance they ever appeared in anything else, or were notable for anything other than for their appearance in this documentary. • Hi Shawn. Nice work on the expansion of this article. I've no objection to de-linking the cast. I automate the creation of the cast section to auto-wikilink all the cast for any articles. Regarding the name, I did notice it had several English-language names, and I was following the guidelines at Use English and Naming Conventions - Films to have the article in English, with the French title as a re-direct. I think the example given at the latter is about The Seventh Seal. This article came about from my work of going through all the Cannes Film Festivals. Cheers!   • As an English speaking editor from Quebec, I've been a longtime advocate of WP:UE as well as WP:CANSTYLE#French names, with some scars to show for it. Problem is, For Those Who Will Follow was a translation for the 63 Cannes film festival that did not have any life or currency that I'm aware of, after that. In the decades that followed, if there was an English title applied to it, it was that unfortunate moniker Of Whales Moon and Men or another sparingly used English title, The Moontrap. I think those two were used interchangeably depending upon the cut down version of the film. Anyway, it was and is pretty confusing. Google those two, and then compare it to a Gsearch for Pour la suite du monde, and you'll see that neither even close to the widespread use of the French title in English, including in the Canadian Film Encyclopedia. In fact take a look at this entry and you'll see that the three listed alternate English titles are: The Moontrap/Of Whales, the Moon and Men and a new entry in the English names sweepstakes, So the World Goes On. For Those Who Will Follow doesn't even appear on the list (and I've never heard of it, even having worked a little on the film and spoken with Brault). It's a big old mess, really, and the problem, as I see it, is that there really is no single, consistent, commonly used English name to redirect to. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 15:26, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
    • Hi Shawn. I think I got the English title from IMDb (yeah, I know it's not 100% reliable... ), but I think this is clear case of when the non-English title should be used. There are a fair few non-English-language film articles without English titles, as there is no "real" English subsitute. Technically it could be seen as WP:OR if an English title was used in those cases, and for this article, TBH. The article states all the different English names (great work in sourcing all this too) and I don't see any harm being done keeping it with this title. Lugnuts (talk) 18:59, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
