Merger proposal

edit

Stumbled upon this thorough article about the station at Portland (Maine) Union Station, it does however need wikifying RAult (talk) 09:36, 21 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

While the Union Station article may need cleanup and wikifying, it shouldn't be merged with the Amtrak station. They may serve the same city, but they aren't the same station. The current Amtrak station was built in the late 1990s as an extension of a bus depot. The former Union Station sat further north, towards Falmouth. --KPWM_Spotter (talk) 13:55, 21 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Id just like to embellish and agree with whomever stated that these two articles should not be merged. The current station was built in 1996 by Concord Trailways and run for 4 years without any rail service at all. Yes, the two have both served Portland with rail, but "it wouldnt be prudent" to merge these two articles as they are two completely separate entities. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.113.183.158 (talk) 16:48, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
The Union Station article doesn't really seem to talk much about Union Station, and also talks about some other stations. I think it ought to be renamed to something like History of Portland Maine Area Passenger Railroad Service or something, though it would be nice to find a clear title that's a little shorter and ideally follows some pattern of existing article titles. No merge. These are two different sites which are almost 1000 yds / 915 meters apart. They are also on different rail lines, (which join to the south.) Union Station had a four track / 500 ft long train shed. The new Amtrak stop is a platform attached to a bus station. truthdowser (talk) 16:14, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'd say it would be better to split the Union Station article into another article on the history of railroading in Portland, Maine, rather than renaming it. And since many here have already pointed out that there's a difference between the two stations, I have to join them in opposing this merge. ----DanTD (talk) 03:30, 26 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
I've just tagged the Union Station article for splitting. I suspect nobody will mind if I remove the merger tags. ----DanTD (talk) 15:34, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply
UPDATE: The tags have been removed. ----DanTD (talk) 19:04, 12 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Station ownership?

edit

The infobox says that the station is owned by Trailways Transportation System. Does anyone have a reference for that? It seems doubtful to me. Furthermore, according to TTS' official web site, Concord Coach Lines (formerly Concord Trailways) is no longer a member of TTS.

Is that so? Did Concord Coach Lines get Portland station once they broke away from Trailways? ----DanTD (talk) 19:43, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
