The Daily Vanguard is a fine newspaper, given that it is entirely student run; I would, however, question the 'tabloid' format given as its label in the Wiki page. It's more of a direct news format, akin to the typical daily paper offered by American universities. The Vanguard is printed in a tabloid format. This refers to the size of the printed page, and not the content on it. Tabloids are generally smaller in size than traditional broadsheets. TheDudePDX (talk) 23:46, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

"Daily"

The Vanguard publishes daily, from Tuesday through Friday, during the school year. Though it does not publish each and every day, it is still regarded as a daily newspaper in form and function. TheDudePDX (talk) 23:26, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Tedder--Yes, Tuesday's edition is completely different from Wednesday's. It is a daily paper in the traditional sense, it just does not print every day of the year. TheDudePDX (talk) 23:49, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

How to reference a newspaper

If I'm editing a wiki article on a newspaper, and I'm not supposed to use the newspaper itself as a source, how am I supposed to reference the basics like sections, coverage, etc? Many thanks in advance. TheDudePDX (talk) 08:15, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Hopefully, there are other sources that have discussed the paper. For instance, circulation is reported to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, and there are plenty of groups that write about the news industry- see the references on The Oregonian: The Oregonian#References. BTW, some of the information currently listed simply isn't encyclopedic. Wikipedia isn't an employee directory, for instance- it'd be better to list the editors in prose form and list any notable current/former employees/authors, but not everything. The same goes for how they are paid, specific details on the publications board, etc. Be aware of WP:COI and WP:NPOV. tedder (talk) 14:58, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

I understand your point regarding the list of section editors, but I believe the info about how they are paid and the details on the publications board is worthy of entry. The pay attests to the fact that it is student-run and a legitimate press entity, and the details of the pub. board illustrates how the paper is governed...IMHO. Thanks for all of your help though!
