Merger Proposal

The result was merge the Port Authority article into Port Qasim. Euryalus (talk) 02:24, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

I propose that Port Qasim Authority be merged into this article, as follows:

  • Duplication - The Port Authority article is entirely made up of information about the Port, not the Port Authority. It is essentially a separate and shorter article on Port Qasim, which would more appropriately be located here;
  • Context - Readers must have looked at the Port Qasim article to get the context to understand the Port Authority page. There seems little point in this standalone article if most or all readers have to go to the main article before they come here; and
  • Length - Both articles are very short and have been for some time. Combining them would not create an overlong article and would assist readers by locating all relevant Port Qasim details in a single page.

If the merge proceeds Port Qasim Authority would redirect to this page. Any comments or alternative viewpoints are welcome. Euryalus (talk) 05:18, 29 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

In the absence of any other views, I have merged the data from Port Qasim Authority into this article. Euryalus (talk) 02:24, 5 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

merge

edit

I think the merge of Qasim fort into this article would be a mistake. They are related but distinct topics, and merit distinct articles.

Distinct articles allow readers interested in the historic fort to have it on their watchlist, without having to learn about modifications related to the current port. And vice versa.

Yes, the Port Qasim article is longer than the Qasim fort article. I consider this completely unimportant. Geo Swan (talk) 20:51, 20 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

        • Port Qasim and Qasim fort are two entirely different things. Fort Qasim is in Manora at the break waters and enterance to Karachi port, where as Port Qasim is a second port of Karachi, approx 50 Km from Karachi port.(Sobersailor) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.216.69.76 (talk) 10:53, 6 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
We're confusing two different merges here. Earlier this year I merged the Port Qasim Authority page into Port Qasim. The "Port Authority" page was just a couple of lines saying that it ran port operations at Port Qasim. That's what my comments about context, duplication and length refer to.
Separate to that, someone else recommended merging Qasim fort into Port Qasim. I have no view on this, but others are strongly opposed to it. As there is a consensus against this merge I have removed the merge tags. Euryalus (talk) 22:50, 7 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Restructuring (24Oct09)

edit

Hi, I have done re-structuring of the complete article. Following are the major changes:

  • Reformatting/restructuring of text
  • Addition of headings History, Land allocation, and ICC3
  • Changes in Facilities, Location and Projects (Major stats from Port Qasim official web site)
  • Addition in Environment regarding Mangroves
  • Inclusion of infobox (as in Port of LA)
  • Inclusion of references
  • Inclusion of PQA logo, Detailed map, and Aerial view
  • External link for PQ Map on wikimapia

This is my first article on WP; So sorry in advance for any mistakes :). Regards

Ismail.sultan (talk) 13:58, 24 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I have added new location map for Port Qasim in SVG format. ISQureshi (talk) 01:27, 3 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well done, the article looks much better. As requested at WP:Ports I have re-rated it, as a "C" but 90% on the way to "B". The only things I think it needs to get to "B" would be some minor grammatical improvements (I'll do these myself in a day or two if no one else has time) and some additional citations for points such as the capacity of the navigation channel and each of the proposed expansions. Other opinions welcome. Euryalus (talk) 03:05, 3 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
