In the article about William I of Normandy, it is stated that "He is sometimes anachronistically dubbed "Duke of Normandy", even though the title duke (dux) did not come into common usage until the 11th century.". However, in this article about Poppa of Bayeux, it says "She was the mother of William I, Duke of Normandy". Enacional (talk) 02:18, 25 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

If Poppa de Bayeux is born around 880 she was around 3 years old when Hrólfr Ragnvaldsson conquered Bayeux. Furthermore a contemporary chronic affirms that William I and his sister Gheirloc were " born oversea from a christian mother " that is before Rollon went to conquer Normandy. Dudo frequently made unsubstantiated claims of ancestry to legitimise the lineage of those who were paying him. The only thing known for sure about Poppa's parentage is that we don't know. William being born "overseas" could have meant anything from England to Azerbaijan - the Norse of this era took women from everywhere. I added the example of Caspian raids from the late 800s to get people thinking about how far Rus slave trading ranged.
