From my own research, the idea of the pop princess probably got started in the early 1960's with the way Mercury Records promoted Lesley Gore, particularly the one-two punch of the singles "It's My Party" and "Judy's Turn to Cry." That became precedent for other record companies: MCA's marketing of Tiffany; Atlantic's of Stacey Q, Deborah Gibson and Jewel; Zomba's of Britney Spears; Sony BMG's of Christina Aguilera; and particularly Disneyland's of Miley Cyrus, Ashley Tisdale, &c. Bangles edit
I have a real problem with The Bangles, who were an actual rock band - as opposed to being the creation of a record producer/impresario or already famous for acting or modeling, categories that describe the other women on this list - and who had considerable credibility , were part of the Paisley Underground scene, and even played on a bill with Black Flag, being included on this list. —This unsigned comment was added by 4.231.179.79 (talk • contribs) .
Paris Hilton edit
Paris Hilton should not be classified as a pop princess. Sure she attempted to become one with her music "career", but one bubblegum pop hit sung by a moderatively pretty girl does not a pop princess make!!! 58.160.183.52 09:43, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Please clean up this article edit
This article has been marked as unsourced for nearly a year now. It is full of original research and weasel words. believe that it also has biography of living people policy issues. Unless it is properly sourced very quickly, I will reduce it to a one line stub. It is very important that articles such as this be properly sourced. - After five days, not a single source has been added and the serious problems of original research and weasel words remained, so I have reduced the article to a stub. - Most of this article cannot be sourced though. Most of the information has been lost, is hard-to-find, or are first-hand accounts. Therefore, I don't think that it is fair for the article to be reduced to a single stub. I am going to add the list of pop princesses back to the article (without the pictures) Haseo9999 04:36, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
