Last Pontiac model produced?
Is there an actual link to a story about the final Pontiac G6 produced, other than a sales chart? Or any article that has a link to this actual vehicle? Is this car in a museum or was it sold to somebody at a dealership? I find it a little hard to believe that GM would restart a production line to build only one vehicle as the article states. - Imveracious, That link makes it sound more like production actually ended in 2009. What I am referring to is what is here on the Pontiac Wikipedia page: "The last Pontiac, a 2010 G6, was built in early 2010 when GM restarted the Orion Assembly Line to manufacture one final 2010 Pontiac G6, after the earlier G6 line at Orion and the Wave/G3 line in San Luis Potosi were shut down in November and December, 2009 respectively. This was most likely done purposely so GM could show that the final Pontiac ever manufactured (and the only one ever manufactured in 2010) was at an American plant." The final G6 vehicles produced were actually considered 2010 model year vehicles. When you take into consideration the events that led up to the end of the Pontiac brand, it just doesn't make sense that GM would restart an entire assembly line to produce one single vehicle for a nameplate that is being discontinued. - From all that I can come up with, and there are a number of people who have questioned this, other than a few people quoting the same information from this Wiki article, production did end in 2009 with those being of the 2010 model year. Here is another- http://www.mlive.com/auto/index.ssf/2009/11/white_2010_g6_sedan_is_last_po.html Who ever wrote that piece here is incorrect. I agree with you that it makes no sense, notwithstanding the cost et. al. involved, to restart a closed down assembly line to produce one vehicle. Taken a step further, if it had been done for the reasons stated in this article, why was it such a "low key affair" as written in the linked article? (no media or no senior GM officials) It makes a nice storybook ending and that's about all.. Since the fact in question has only a dubious, albeit GM Media "Production by Plant and Platform" sheet I would tag it as such. If there is no response or in the least something more substantial than the "sheet" ; rewrite that portion to conform with the information from whichever source you wish to use. - The last sentence from the article you just linked: "Pontiac's official end will come in December, when GM stops production of the Pontiac G3 Wave, a subcompact built in Mexico and sold only in Canada." The way I interpret that, it makes it sound like The G3 Wave was actually the last Pontiac produced, not the G6.
