municipal website

edit

are you sure it is the municipal website ? i can only readu cyrillic so i don't understand everything but it seems it s the website of a company, with a marketing section, another about the company itself... I was looking to visit the city, but it s hard to find information about "how to go". if someones has information about close highways (ok, ok, it s ukraine, so at least the largest roads), train information, closest airport (dnepropetrovsk?)...

As of 2009-06-13, there is a correct link in the article. http://www.meria.poltava.ua/foreign/ - there is a short info for foreigner. Yes, I agree, it must be wider than it currently is, but why don't use Wiki article instead? ;) 193.84.90.3 (talk) 18:04, 13 June 2009 (UTC) Roman K.Reply

Poltava - Baltavar

edit

According to bulgarian historians, the name of Poltava was originally Baltavar, and it was founded by bulgar tribes, maybe by the Huns. I think this should be mentioned in this article, if anyone feels so, put it in. I give you some sources for that:

"In 863, Djilki attempted to unite the fractured empire. He attacked suddenly the city of Baltavar (Batavyl, present Poltava), where Kan Lachyn was at that time. Lachyn left Baltavar to its fate, and fled to Khazaria. After a capture of Baltavar, Djilki advanced to Kyiv. At the approach of his troops to the city, the Khazarian Khakan’s viceroy Askold fled to Novgorod (Galidj). Prince Dir came out from the city towards Djilki, and pledged submissiveness. After that, Djilki returned to Baltavar (Poltava) and resumed the rule as the Kan of Kara Bulgar." http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:c753L2QVck4J:s155239215.onlinehome.us/turkic/11Miftakhov/Lecture_9En.htm+ibn+fadlan+almysh&cd=4&hl=hu&ct=clnk&gl=hu — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xxlrutin (talkcontribs) 09:10, 1 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

an other source: "859 Khan Shilki lost battle to Khazar Kagan Iskhak at Baltavar (Poltava)" http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:yurwEeypED4J:s155239215.onlinehome.us/turkic/70_Dateline/71_Huns/hun_dateline10_En.htm+baltavar+djilki&cd=2&hl=hu&ct=clnk&gl=hu

By the way, the word "baltavar" was also used as the title of volga-bulgarian ruler (because the capital of volga-bulgarians was Baltavar).

Current Mayor Oleksandr Mamay....

was elected in 2010 as member of Conscience of Ukraine; but he officially joined the ranks of the Party of Regions last July.[1]

Monuments

edit

This needs a section on monuments and such. Isn't there a Poltava fortress or such? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:47, 19 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
