Talk:Police use of torture in India

Latest comment: 13 years ago by Qwyrxian in topic Merger proposal

keep: Corruption in India is the biggest social issue being faced at present times. 1.21 billion people are being affected. Accommodating all the contents in article Corruption in India is not possible. Separate articles are needed for specific areas. Deleting or merging the article will only work in favor of corruption. The article is well referenced. The contents can be improved to remove anybody's Point of View. Recognizing the problem is the first step in curing the problem, deleting an article saying that there is no such thing, even though it is well covered in media is not a good thing for society and for Wikipedia. I'm now making a good faith effort to see if this can be salvaged. However, even what little you're written here is extremely problematic. First, you cannot assert flat out in the beginning that corruption among Indian police is widespread with no references or facts. Second, I removed all of the unsourced info in the middle--such extreme, negative material absolutely must be sourced. Third, you badly misrepresented the sources in the one sourced section. For example, the first source does not state that the majority of deaths in police custody occurred because of torture. In fact, it says that one report said that in Punjab (not all of India, just one state), "The main reason behind deaths in police custody has been mentioned as torture, medical negligence and drug addiction" (direct quotation from the article). That's 3 different causes, only one of which is torture. I'm continuing to work through the rest of the sources to see if this is salvageable. Qwyrxian (talk) 08:55, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
The last two parts were removed because those are not reliable sources. Qwyrxian (talk) 08:59, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Close to merge-worthy, but time to develop is okay

edit
At the moment, it looks to me like this needs to be merged into Corruption in India. However, I'm going to give you a while to see if you can find more information to transform this into a full article; if not, I'll propose a merge later. Qwyrxian (talk) 08:59, 6 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal

edit

I propose that Police use of torture in India be merged into Human rights in India. A separate article is unnecessary. A section within the destination article would best serve visitors. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:34, 19 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've copied over this discussion to Talk:Human rights in India per standard merge procedures. If anyone wishes to comment on the merger, please do so there. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:26, 19 May 2011 (UTC)Reply
