Thanks for taking the trouble of adding correct accents to the French words. You might be irritated to see I've reverted 'excentriques' to 'eccentriques' but that's in the interests of accuracy, not good spelling - I was quoting the NYTimes writer, who actually did write 'chanteuses eccentriques'.RLamb (talk) 05:36, 30 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

possible bisexuality and affair with Colette

edit

according to Creating Colette from ingenue to libertine by Gontier and Francis, Polaire had an affair with Colette. In her memoirs, she denied this, and Judith Thurman, in her Colette biography Secrets of the Flesh says that 'Willy's statements, public and private, over the years support this. So do Colette's : she told a friend that Polaire had a horror of 'unisexuality' (contemporary term for homosexuality) and had never been her lover.' I think it deserves an acknowledgement as a possibility that was rumoured at the time. The rumours may have been partly because Willy made her and Colette parade around with him when Polaire was playing Claudine on stage, to promote Claudine en menage, where Claudine cheats on her husband with a woman. 92.40.12.123 (talk) 12:32, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
