Is this really neutral?

In the United Kingdom, the "Christian Power Cards" game was introduced in 1999 in response to these claims of Pokémon to be Satanic, the game being similar to the Pokémon TCG but using Biblical figures.

This line from the article, and it's source on BBC news seems a little more slanted than I feel comfortable with. I would like to hear feedback about this from more experienced editors and maintainers since I really only pitch in occasionally when I feel there's something that doesn't fit. To me, the source article sounds a bit too slanted. Could we perhaps find a less biased source? I know I seem bold by challenging a source like BBC but then again I've always been hypercritical of the media's NPOV. Darkmaster2004 (talk) 12:09, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for bringing this up, Darkmaster. I think the BBC story is a good reference, but I agree with you that the sentence in which the BBC article is referenced should be rewritten. After reading the BBC article, I noticed Mr. Tate doesn't say anything about Pokémon being Satanic, he simply wanted an alternative game for his students to get excited about. So, as a Sunday school teacher, he chose to create a Bible-themed card game.

I'm not quite 100% sure exactly what it is that bothers me about the article..I think how the article opens up makes it seem like the writer isn't covering something that he/she should...but I dont know what. The article itself is ok but I wonder what they omitted? An additional reference might be handy here but I couldn't find anything I'd deem reputable enough. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places? Anyhow, I think my main issue is how that line in the wiki article says 'Satanic' when there's no mention of such in the BBC article.

To be honest, I'm starting to doubt the neutrality of the whole 'Morality' section of the article because I saw a reference to epinions, [26], which is...an opinion site.

Wow. I just read through all the references in the "Morality" section, and I agree the whole section needs to be rewritten, complete with some new references. Some of the references are okay, but others are questionable, especially the epinions.com one. I've reread the section and it still seems to be a bit shy of having a neutral point of view, but the citations look a little better now. I think we should add at the end of the section: "Although many claims have been made by various groups, attacking the morality of Pokemon, none have really been proven to be caused by any malicious or immoral intent by Nintendo, Pokemon USA or any other companies affiliated with distributing and selling Pokemon merchandise." <insert some good citations here>

I haven't really added that because I wanted to float it by people here and ask for some help looking for citations to support that statement.--

No idea how legit this website is that is claiming this but it is Interesting. It is either a Viral fake or legit leak... Its been Foating around my Facebook crew all morning. The trailer is almost certainly fake. On the miniscule chance that it isn't, we'd need confirmation from Nintendo or the studio before adding it to the article. Melicans (talk, contributions) 15:45, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Number of Pokemon

Sure, its all there after all. I think the lead, or at least somewhere in the article though, should mention that several of them have NOT been acknowledged by nintendo..A bizarre situation, which is why I think it should be up. Keldeo, Meloetta and Genesect do exist but only cause people were able to find a way to glitch the game to get them there was a video on youtube that gave you the 3 as shiny and they unlocked an event in the game. But even though the fans know of their existence Nintendo has yet to acknowledge it in both the US and Japan so until they do there's only 646 Pokemon. JamesAlan1986 12:14, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Pronunciation

I have a strong objection to the pronunciation at the start of the article. It's extremely NA-centric and I don't personally know anyone who pronounces it like that. Could someone who knows how to do it add an English pronunciation using a short O sound in the last syllable? Hi, JC Wells's Longman Pronunciation Dictionary gives: ˈpəʊk.ɪ.mɒn for British English. This one is the most widdely used pronunciation according to the dictionary but three other pronunciations for British English are:

Bloodsport

I was gonna add that besides insect collecting it also drains inspiration from bloodsports like dogfighting, but got a little scared with the block warnings. Pokémon may resemble bloodsport, but I doubt it was inspired by it. In one of his few interviews, Satoshi Tajiri emphasized that it were the unique characteristics of insects and the places they inhabited which fascinated him. He denied that he ever pitted them ("but sometimes they would eat each other"). Later in the interview, Tajiri was also asked how he felt about the worries that Pokémon's violence may influence children. He answered: "I'm very careful about violence in games. I'm not interested in creating violent effects." While there were plenty of worries regarding Pokémon during its heyday, I can't recall that animal cruelty was one of them. Torchic's original Japanese name is アチャモ or Achamo, a contraction of 赤子 or akago ("baby"), and 軍鶏 or shamo ("fighter"). The latter is a breed of chicken, used in Japanese cockfights for centuries. Incorrect Description

In the first picture in the article, the description states that the Bulbasaur and Charmander are in Pokemon Red and Blue, however that screenshot is from Pokemon Yellow as they are coloured. Even the Super Game Boy didn't display this many colours if the game if the game did not specifically support it. I played Pokemon Red on Super Game Boy, and it never looked this good. Those colors are within the capacity of the original Red and Blue versions. Charmander's front-sprite is still that of his Red/Blue sprite rather than the updated Yellow-sprite. Jackal Killer (talk) 04:53, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

It is not misleading. Red and Blue had color imaging if used on anything but the classic GameBoy. Just because some people seem to have missed this fact does not mean we will change the image, or even elaborate that it is being played on a GBC. Added the new English Pokémon Manga
