We can't really say outright in the article's introduction that the 1970s band is a hoax, obvious as it may be, because to do so turns the article into original research. What the article can do (and does do) is point out inconsistencies, and where others have noted this as hoax. I am changing this edit by 70.16.77.127 (talk • contribs) to reflect that. Clever

This was a very entertaining hour on VH1 classic. Fortunately, from the moment I saw the mocumentary, I noticed a few things

• That boy was about ten
• That girl had a very "modern" look (who is the actress who plays her)
• It was clearly a joke, as displayed by the facial expressions

It was cool, though. I recommend reseraching into the details about the mocumentary — perhaps figure out who the actors are and so on. — Deckiller 07:11, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

The actors who played Erin and young Dave were, unfortunately, uncredited. We may have to wait for them to turn up elsewhere, it seems inevitable that they will. The film was made by Tomorrow's Brightest Minds/Oil Factory and the narrator was ElwoodDan Aykroyd, but there aren't many production notes out in public view as yet. --Cheesemaster 08:34, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Per the Best Buy 2 disc set

Per the Best Buy 2 disc set, the "new" 2006 album is "Self Titled" and the "1974" album is titled "Make Believe." Need to fix this in the article.

Font identification original research

This article has major original research problems. I know people like to prove parts are wrong to expose the hoax, but that's not what Wikipedia is for. We need reliable sources for any factual claims.

I removed a bit that was just plain wrong. It read:

Prominent in the promotion was an image of the 1974 Platinum Weird album cover. The title font on this cover art is Desdemona, created by Font Bureau in 1992 and distributed by Microsoft.

OK, no. Just Googling around and finding someone selling a computer font and giving a date for that file is not proof of anything. We would need to quote a font expert to say that font could not have been on that album on that date. Any font expert would know that was wrong, however. The Font Bureau font is just a digital version of a typeface. The actual typeface existed long before. The editor who added it used the Identifont website as a source, but that was just talking about the Font Bureau version. Another page on Indentifont reads:

Quaint Gothic SG

Based on the Quaint Series from the Dickinson Type Foundry in Boston USA circa 1900. Also known as Desdemona by the K.K. Hof & K. Brendler Foundry.

So the typeface itself has been around for a long, long time.

Now, of course the thing is a hoax, but we do not need random non-experts trying to tell us it is a hoax by using flawed arguments. DreamGuy (talk) 20:27, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
