{{spoiler}} The section on plot has a spoiler warning, but the screen capture of the Statue of Liberty gives away the entire ending and is not contained in the spoiler section. Shouldn't the picture be moved, or possibly even deleted (perhaps with a link to the image page with a suitable spoiler warning?) I realize probably the whole world knows the surprise ending by now, but if we're going to put the plot inside spoiler tags, not doing so to the picture seems pointless. If you mean between the spoiler tags, you did - that doesn't prevent anyone from seeing it when they scroll past it though...? Your latest revert still has the image outside the spoiler marker; in any event, the image is extremely prominent and hard to miss. What is the point of having spoiler tags if you have an image easily seen that gives the entire movie away?Michael Dorosh 05:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Request for Comment: Spoiler Image

This is a dispute over the appropriateness of the image used to illustrate the movie.20:32, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Statements by editors previously involved in dispute:

• The image Image:Potaending.jpg gives away the entire ending of the movie, and even if placed between spoiler tags, is easily spotted when scrolling past that section and looking for the end spoiler tag. What is the point in having spoiler tags if the image so easily gives away the ending? See my comments above also - I realize the end of the movie is well known to many, but can only presume the use of the tags is to not ruin the movie for those who have not yet seen it or been made aware of the ending.Michael Dorosh 20:32, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

I believe the point of the spoiler warning is to advise readers not to proceed beyond that point if they don't want to know things. Anyone wanting to remain in the dark about it should stop and leave the article. There would be no need for them to scroll into the article. Reading the article or scrolling through the article makes no difference -- they still learn what is there. The article even spells out (in no uncertain terms) that Taylor confronts the Statue of Liberty and learns that he is back on Earth. Not at all, there are plenty of reasons to keep scrolling - for example, to explore other articles in the same category. That is why there are "endspoiler" templates, so that people can navigate safely past spoiler material. Many articles have trivia sections and other items of interest after the plot summaries, which is what are usually tagged with spoilers. So there are many reasons to believe people would scroll down further. It all comes down to personal preferences - you are basing your reaction solely on what you will do, and taking anyone else into consideration.Michael Dorosh 01:04, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
