Oil spill in LA

edit

The BBC seems to suggest here that Plains All American have a pipeline with a pump station in LA - which is rather outside the area described in the article? So I'm wondering if this is the correct article to mention the spill ? or is there another spot it belongs ? The oil spill (originally estimated as 1,000,000 gallons spilled, but later revised to 50,000 gallons and then 10,000 gallons) was apparently due to a faulty valve. Andy Caldwell, Executive Director of COLAB (The Coalition of Labor, Agriculture and Business) [1] whose radio show is described as "The Voice of Reason", argued that the oil spill was an unfortunate accident that can be cleaned up in a matter of weeks. Caldwell claimed the "same amount of oil leaks into the waters off the Refugio coast every two days due to natural seepage."[2] Santa Barbara County supervisor Doreen Farr "contended natural seeps do not require the closure of beaches, cost millions of dollars to clean, or bring hundreds of people from all over the country to Santa Barbara’s shores."[2]Oceanflynn (talk) 15:12, 27 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

Refugio Oil Spill

edit

According to the dates in the article, the spill was discovered the day before it began. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.79.46.125 (talk) 10:44, 7 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Good catch, the cited reference has the wrong date also. Fettlemap (talk) 17:37, 7 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Financial performance and credit ratings

edit

Greetings Wikipedians! This article devotes substantial space to the company's carbon and environmental controversies, but says nothing about its financial performance. Whether we approve of their environmental record or not, this is a for-profit company. Profits (which have been somewhat volatile in the past three years) are part of the story. So, in the interests of completeness and fairness, I've added a very brief section on financial performance and credit ratings. I will endeavor to keep this new information updated. Full disclosure: I happen to hold one of their bonds in my IRA, but I am not and never have been affiliated with the company in any other way. Cordially, BuzzWeiser196 • talk • contributions •

2020 losses

edit

Greeting Wikipedians! I inserted a 10-year table summarizing financial results and an explanation of the $2.6 billion loss in 2020. When a company's results are this volatile, I believe that calls for an explanation. I tried to find some news stories to cite, but was not successful. Net income for five years ended 2017 came from Plains' 2017 SEC Form 10-K. Net income for five years ended 2022 came from Barron's web site. I am not affiliated with Plains in any way, except that I own a small amount of their bonds. Cordially, BuzzWeiser196 (talk) 12:32, 3 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
