Well, they would've been long holidays, but I'm fairly sure they existed. Remember Around the World in 80 Days: in 1872, it was possible to travel the world via steamship and rail. I know Brits went on vacation in India. Brutannica 01:50, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia claiming that it was coined by Wilhelm II in 1901, when the original speech where it was coined is available from Wikisource? http://de.wikisource.org/wiki/Deutschlands_Platz_an_der_Sonne
