Oxygen Extraveganza

Just wanted to note that I don't think we can be absolutely certain pikmin breathe oxygen. Plants don't breathe oxygen so it seems unlikely that Pikmin do. I understand that Olimar noted the planet had 'toxic oxygen', but I don't think that implies that Pikmin survive on oxygen.

I could be wrong, I was mainly hoping to see if there was any backing for that. - Masamune

The Pikmin are based on our plants. They use carbon dioxide and release oxygen. THe Pikmin drown like all plants do, by being watered too much. Jedi6-(need help?) 05:52, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Then how do the Blue pikmin prevent themselves from drowning if there is no form of carbon dioxide in the water? Plus I dont think gills would stop them from getting overwatered. Purple Pikmin

Its a video game. There really doesn't have to be an logical explanation. However, my hypothesis is that since they are a mixture between animal and plant life, the inclusion of gills would serve to evicerate the problem, filtering in oxygen and water akin to an fish. -Zero^Talk 07:08, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

I support his theory. While they are part plant, using sunlight H2O and CO2 to make C6H12O6 (sugar) H2O and O2, (allowing them to survive long periods without food) they are also part animal, breathing in oxygen and out carben dioxide. blue pikmin are the only ones with gills, thus they are the only ones able to breathe underwater (and they also seem the only one able to swim well) Nam esiw 00:24, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Plants DO breathe Oxygen, though they breathe much less Oxygen than us it is required for their survival. Considering Pikin are mobile creatures it would take much more Oxygen to support their movement.- LaYF

Black Pikmin

Can anyone explain this section:

Black Pikmin?

In the first pikmin game when Olimar is not next to any pikmin, the bubble at the bottom of the screen will show a black pikmin that has no facial features except for eyes. Also, if the 30 day time limit expires with getting enough rocket parts the Game Over scene depicts olimar getting turned into a black pikmin.

Well, I found a website that mentions more than 100 Pikmin in the field, but it was a game site that appeared to make that assumption upon finding the northern hemisphere of the globe. I'm thinking that the developers mentioning that is just faulty memory? --Kirby-oh 23:43, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
