REFERENCES AND LEGION OF HONOUR AWARD

edit

I have added a "Reference" section, as this article was a bit vague on where the information that it contained came from. I am assuming that it came from French Wikipedia. If this is the case, then more work needs to be done to create inline citations to evidence this article, as this article currently has repeated messages of concern, such as:-

In my opinion, these concerns are valid, and need addressing.

The Legion of Honour award problem, is an example of what happens when there is a lack of inline citations. I added a special demarcated section in this Pierre-Dominique Bazaine biography for "Awards" and fleshed out the details of Pierre-Dominique Bazaine's progess through the Legion of Honour ranking system. The article originally stated that Pierre-Dominique Bazaine was promoted as far as Commander, however, there was no supporting inline citation to evidence this fact. I have provided an inline citation, based on the original Legion of Honour certificate document from the Lénore database, for his award of a knight and his subsequent promotion to the rank of officer, but these documents do not mention him being promoted to Commander (the next rank up) at all. I am not saying this "Commander promotion" fact is wrong, but it does need backing up, in my opinion. I have kept the original reference to him being a Commander in the article, but I have also put a "Citation needed" tag in to indicate that more work needs to be done to back up this fact.

I would be interested to know what other editors think about the approach that I have taken. Please discuss! SMargan (talk) 06:01, 4 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
