"Its toponym has been attributed to the Old English Pyda's tun." This does not take account of the -ing element, signifying "kinfolk, descendants". The full name signifies Pyda's folks' tun (farm).--Wetman (talk) 05:08, 14 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
