As it stands, the article is full of misleading and/or misunderstood information. For example, "the light must pass through the band gap" completely misunderstands what a band gap is—it's a gap in the range of possible energies that electrons in a material can have. Electrical energy is generated when the an incoming photon moves an electron from an energy level below the gap to one above it, which is only possible if the photon's energy is at least equal to the gap.
