Talk:Phineas Fisher

Gender edit

This article is looking good W1tchkr4ft 00, nice one! I was wondering about how to refer to Phineas Fisher, since I've only read sources gendering him as he, and you use "she" at two points. Has Fisher gendered themself? Otherwise maybe using "they" is better? Mujinga (talk) 10:12, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Mujinga: Thanks, Appreciated. :) I really must finish it. Absolutely, I assumed someone would ask or challenge because there seems to be an assumption online. It has been what i consider official after it was mentioned by her in the Caymen text, she says: "But behind the balaclava, I'm just a girl. We are all wild children. We just have to place a star in the beds in our hearts.", and in spanishhere if this and my translation is bad. W1tchkr4ft 00 (talk) 15:01, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ah yes thanks for the links, that resolves it then. "Like many hackers, I grew up with little human contact: I was a girl raised by the internet" is conclusive. Mujinga (talk) 15:19, 3 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Mujinga: No problem. Do you think this article will be ready for mainspace after I fill out the section n the 'Hacking Team' hack,? I plan to write about the content and themes of the communiques and some other things but I do not think that is needed right now.
Also should I add a little about her gender like, 'due to biases in relation to the gender disparity in computing many references previously referred to Phineas as male but it was confirmed otherwise with the publication of the cayman communique.'? Or do you think it would be better to just leave it? I am anticipating saving questions down the line because of the use of masculine in many older citations. Sorry for the questions, this is my first new article and it is something I do not feel comfortable doing, it just seemed criminal that there was not already this article. Well, right now the article would need a copyedit and removal of notes, but yes in terms of notability requirements and sourcing it seems pretty good to go. It's far beyond a stub already - cool topic to start with! I'd be happy to give it the once-over when you are ready with it ... you know it's better to just make the article rather than going through the article for creation process right? Coz that can take months and you aren't a brand-new user. Re "should I add a little about her gender" you can only really do this if reliable secondary sources have said something, otherwise it's gonna smack of original research. Cheers! I think this Draft is ready! edit

Let us publish this article! More people will find this/start editing this once it's in the main space and it's in a really good state now. Shushugah (talk) 10:26, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Shushugah: Sure, go ahead. It's missing some important parts but I agree it's probably suitable for mainspace. It first needs a copyedit first as Mujinga says and I will continue to work on this in my namespace in the meantime. Cheers. SP00KYtalk 10:43, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I agree with Shushugah that there's enough now to publish the article and then when it's live it can added to by others. Feels like you should publish it though @W1tchkr4ft 00: since you've done the lion's share of the work. And it's prob easier for you to separate out a "clean" publishable version and your own working version for userspace. I'm still available to help out with this. Cheers Mujinga (talk) 12:11, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
No problem, I'll try to get this done over the next few days. Thanks both. SP00KYtalk 12:18, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Shushugah:, @Mujinga:; Phineas Fisher is now in mainspace. I added some more to the article for things I feel there should be sections for. :) SP00KYtalk 03:09, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
cool congrats on your first article, I'll give it the promised onceover now - as a comment to me it looks weird to have sections with nothing in them tagged for expansion, but we can see what other people think about that and hopefully they'll get expanded. Mujinga (talk) 09:19, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I'll remove the name mentioned here because they are a victim of police violence and I think on balance of probabilities they don't want their name published (and it's not important for the article). The redirect discussion seems to be heading towards delete as well. Mujinga (talk) 09:31, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Post Draft stuff edit

Still needs section written on the Hacking Team breach and leak. Probably should underscore the international importance of the FinFisher successful hack/information disseminationan which if i remember correctly was reported on at least a decent bit afterwards. The order of importance and ease of what sections could be improved on here in my opinion: `Hacking Team breach > AKP hack > Identity I get HT and GG mixed up in my head, really hoping someone else will write this tbh. I will try to expound on the Kurdistan solidarity AKP hack and the identity section over the next few days/week. SP00KYtalk 03:26, 18 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Images edit

I'd like to ad one maybe two images but am unsure, so I will ask a few questions:

  • Can i use the ascii art from the communiques?
  • If not can I re-create the art on my own editor and use that?
  • If both of the above are a hard no due to WP absolute copyright ridiculousness would seeking a anti-copyright confirmation on the communiques be acceptable?

Here is just an example of the kind of images I would like to use, which is the cover of the 'Banks communique'. Probably I would like to use the cow without the text as it is very clearly supposed to be a visual representation of 'Subcowmanddante Marcos'.
