Why is Schofield referred to as a "former" television presenter in the lead sentence when he hasn't formally retired? He's made a few remarks about "My career is over" etc, although really he's just been cancelled and had his post at ITV terminated. That's not the same as retiring. Sure, it's unlikely he will ever work in TV again, but I wouldn't rule out a "comeback" of some degree on a right wing channel like GB News or TalkTV that makes a point of platforming controversial figures shunned by the mainstream. A few years ago I edited Graham Linehan's page to call him a "former" comedy writer, however this was reverted as the mods claimed that it wasn't correct as Linehan hadn't actually ended his career, despite him admitting that he no longer works in the industry due to becoming an anti-trans activist. If Linehan isn't a "former" comedy writer then Schofield definitely isn't a "former" presenter. I personally think Linehan's page should have "former" in the lead sentence and Schofield's shouldn't. Not done: I'm assuming you're talking about the first sentence. Changing "is" to "was" would typically mean the subject has died. Instead, the lead would be changed to something like "former presenter", but a consensus on this would be helpful, seeing as it's already been removed once. Former presenter would need some evidence that he has retired. He may have effectively retired, but at this point it is too early to say. When sources say he is a former presenter, that is when Wikipedia says it. Wikipedia is a lacking indicator, as we rely on the sources to be written first. Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 07:24, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
