Not Remotely Funny

edit

It is unfair to genuine comedians to claim that Phill Jupitus has ever had anything to do with comedy. "BBC Garbage" would be more accurate for this pile. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.193.68.7 (talk) 00:17, 24 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

IMDB

edit

The IMDB link says that he was born in Bangladesh, and that was in a previous version of the article. Now it says that he was born on the IOW. Anyone actually know? Rshand 23:34, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Are you sure? I checked on IMDB and it says IOW.--A.szczep 09:55, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

The bee thing is made up

edit

"My wikipedia entry says I collect bees- you can't trust the internet"- Phil Jupitus —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.168.196.204 (talk) 21:15, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well done to whoever just put that in there though. I was sitting at the computer watching the show, opened the browser as soon as he said it and before I'd gotten to the page there were two new edits mentioning it. Danikat (talk) 21:17, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

P.S. How exactly does one collect bees? -I think you attach elastic to them...;)- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.132.170.13 (talk) 16:59, 28 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I collect bees and I don't understand what Phil's problem is. I have several hives and have travelled to South America, amongst other places, in pursuit of my "unorthodox" hobby. Entomology is my passion and I had thought I had found a fellow hobbyist in the form of Mr Jupitus, but evidently I was wrong. Thanks, Phil, for making myself and the other members of the Baljaffray Union of Beekeepers feel stupid on national television. -- Clive Pattinson —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.192.215.150 (talk) 01:05, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Frequently appears on QI?

edit

I can only recall a couple of appearances on QI, should this be changed to "occasionally appears on QI"? Apepper 11:28, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think frequently suits: See here and hereDBD 11:36, 21 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I agree, he is on QI frequently. Noosentaal (talk) 12:52, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
He is definitely one of the more frequent guests--TimothyJacobson (talk) 20:41, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, bitch

he has 24 appearances on QI, second only to Jo Brand. (as a guest) 86.160.110.184 (talk) 10:04, 14 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

More

edit

"He appeared at her Tribute Concert in 2002 as compere and also sung "Fifteen Minutes" one of her songs.[5]"

Can somebody put a comma or something in here?

Also, whilst the bit ("Personal Life') about the A13 is vaguely amusing, in an encyclopedia it is either unfinished or it doesn't quite fit. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.158.41.139 (talk) 00:26, 12 February 2007 (UTC).Reply

DHSS?

edit

Google tells me that DHSS stands for the "Department of Health and Social Security". If this is correct the article should state that before abbreviation for clarity. Cheers, Noosentaal (talk) 12:55, 21 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Quitting Buzzcocks?

edit

On the latest episode Simon made multiple references to eastern Europeans and how Phil had debt to pay, at the end of the episode a scripted scene takes place where Phil is attacked and it ends with him dead and crushed by an anvil. Simon pleaded to viewers to tune into next weeks show to see whether Phil "survives"... Is he quitting the show? 86.45.101.9 (talk) 20:35, 23 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

No, if you recall from the beginning of the show - Simon alluded to ratings falling and made a series of jokes intended to provide an element of suspense to keep people watching (the naked flame and gas canister under Phill's desk etc). Nanonic (talk) 23:43, 23 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hence no reference to it the following week--TimothyJacobson (talk) 20:41, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Perfect Ten Podcast

edit

Hello. I've added a mention of the 'Perfect Ten' podcast in the 'Other Works' section. But I don't know what to put in as a link to it - there isn't a website, only the itunes store. There is a facebook page/group but I seem to recall that Wikipedia takes a dim view of linking to myspace and the like, so at the moment it looks like an unsubstantiated entry. But it does exist. If anyone can find anything to link it to.... 79.79.254.180 (talk) 21:26, 17 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Phill keeps bees?

edit

He claimed on Buzzcocks 26/11/08 that his entry claimed he keeps bees! Talltim (talk) 21:16, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

He did indeed, and was saying it isn't true. He's right, it did say that he keeps bees. It's been changed now (think someone keeps changing it back though) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.110.180.239 (talk) 21:21, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, hopefully this problem will be sorted soon. Will probably be protected in a few minutes - sorfane 21:40, 27 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I adore all the bee-related vandalism, it's so funny. I know, it's not REALLY funny, but I came here after watching the episode on iPlayer to examine the damage.~ZytheTalk to me! 17:12, 29 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • You want funny, listen to this: New York Times Sunday Magazine, [crossword puzzle] "Going Around in Circles", December 28, 2008, p. 56:
111 Across: BBC panel show regular Phill (ans: JUPITUS)
113 Down: Big-screen beekeeper (ans: ULEE)
(They cross, and share the second U in Jupitus.)

Episodes missed

edit

According to the main wiki article:

Jupitus' big television break came in 1996 when he joined BBC Two's pop quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks as a regular team captain. As of December 2008, he has appeared in every episode of the show

I know this means he has appeared in every episode up until then. However, I will cut "As of December 2008" because although it means that he didn't miss any up until that point, it reads as though he didn't miss any after that point. I am sure that if he does miss some, it will be added to Wiki in no time, so we don't actually need these four words --TimothyJacobson (talk) 20:41, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Further to my above posting, I noticed that further up the article it said:

He has been team captain on BBC2's popular music quiz Never Mind the Buzzcocks since 1996, which makes him the only remaining member of the original line-up.

Although this sentence itself perhaps needs rephrasing (which is a separate issue) I believe it makes the "As of..." line completely superfluous, so I cut the whole sentence instead of just the first four words.--TimothyJacobson (talk) 20:46, 16 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Jupitus Name Game (wiki newbie question)

edit

I've seen on a couple of other sites--and sometimes in past versions of this article--that Phill's original last name was either Swan or Swann. It has been deleted without discussion. Does that mean it isn't true or that the article's author doesn't know or is there some other reason? I realize Phill's article has been pranked a couple of times, but I'm pretty sure I saw it at least once before the whole bee collector incident. 97.77.178.78 (talk) 18:56, 21 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Quadrophobia on DVD

edit

In the main page it states that Quadrophobia was released on VHS and later on DVD. I have searched high and low and have never been able to find it on DVD. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AlisonCVS (talkcontribs) 09:51, 10 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

There is a 2006 2-Disc special edition on Region 2 DVD, released by Universal Pictures Uk Ltd, with the catalogue reference 824 341 7 86.146.2.251 (talk) 13:26, 23 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, there isn't. On Phill And Phil's Perfect Ten Jupitus mentioned that it never came out on DVD. He specifically said that he had stuff he would like to have done on the extras but couldn't. He would have mentioned it if there was a "2-Disc special edition" released in 2006.

Why would you go to the trouble of making that up, with a reference and everything? Serious About Comedy (talk) 06:50, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Available Recordings

edit

There was no mention at all about material by Porky the Poet or by Phil as himself released anywhere. I've added a reference to two tracks on Not Just Mandela (1986 Davy Lamp Records DLLP4). I can't find any reference to any other available recordings anywhere but I've put a reference out to a site referencing the album. Oops! Except for the refernece in 'other works' to recordings with the Neurotics - but they're on 'Not Just Mandela' too and it isn't mentioned on their page. I'm going there...Adam C Fletcher (talk) 22:27, 25 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Married by 1966??

edit

“In 1966 Jupitus moved to Essex, where his wife Shelley and daughters settled in Leigh-on-Sea, he attended Northbury Infants and Junior schools in Barking and later attended Woolverstone Hall School near Ipswich as a boarder on a scholarship.”

Notwithstanding the clumsy run on of this sentence, I can’t make any sense of this at all: if it is about Phill, it is shows what a precocious kid he was to move wife and children to L-o-S while attending infant school; if it is about one of his parents or grandparents, what were they doing attending school??Jock123 (talk) 12:28, 19 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Lithuanian Descent?

edit

If this stepfather was Jupitus, then Phill is not really of Lithuanian descent, is he? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.13.252.20 (talk) 09:21, 28 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

From Isle of Wight

edit

I once heard on Radio Four that Jupitus is from the Isle of Wight, and indeed, this is backed up by the categories that follow this article. Should this not go in the section on his life?Vorbee (talk) 15:41, 4 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
