Sinag Pilipinas

edit

I think we should also work on how to include Sinag Pilipinas into the article. This article is supposed to contain info for the Philippine men's basketball team. We even make mention of the SEABA and SEA Games, some of the recent wins on these tournaments are actually represented by Sinag. Israformales (talk) 06:39, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Tournaments

edit

Tournament not necessary to be in the article of the Philippines national basketball team

  • The William Jones Cup is not a major and regional competition for national teams - its a rather national teams and club teams competition and the Philippines national team only played in 1998 and the recent ones 2005 and 2006 tournaments.
  • The FIBA Asia Champions Cup is a major tournaments for the best club teams in Asia and therefore it should not be in this article. Although the Philippine squads that played in 1984, 1985 and 2005 tournaments were the entire national team but they played in the tournament as a club team, known as the San Miguel Philippines, not as a national team.
  • The Brunei Cup is an invitational tournament, its not a regional tournament and it just happened that the national team played in this tournament. Just because the national team is about to win it for the second time, it doesn't mean we have to put it in the article. Although, we can mention it in the 2005-present section.

That's all thanks!... peads 02:02, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ok, I'm for deleting the Champions Cup and the Brunei Cup. I am still to be convinced about the Jones Cup, though. --Howard the Duck 02:44, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
The Jones Cup can be acceptable but I think Filipino teams maybe from 1998 ca be acceptable... its up to you Howard... you can put back the William Jones Cup results from 1998.. peads 02:55, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Are you sure the Jones Cup also admits club teams? If it admits club teams, then it should be removed. However, the latest games should also reflect the last 10 games the national team, regardless they're listed at the tourneys section. --Howard the Duck 03:08, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
The United States were represented last year by the Passing Lane (CBA or NBDA team?) and this year by the Athletes in Action (a select team)... other countries like Korea (University team), Japan (under-24 team), Australia (under- 19 team - 2006, Great Mates - 2002), Russia (Samarra - 2005), Canada (Victoria University - 2001).... Although, some countries consistently compete their national teams like the Philippines, Taiwan, Kazakhstan and even those beatable national teams... peads 03:22, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well then it should be removed here, but can those records be added on some other articles? --Howard the Duck 03:35, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think the current section of Latest Results should be maintain but the Jones Cup I'm not sure... 1998 Results was already in the Philippine Centennial Team section but maybe you can create the article - Philippines in the William Jones Cup .. peads 03:41, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
How about adding them to "Other tournaments". Then place the Far Eastern Games to the Asian tournaments (its the forerunner of the Asian Games). Also, which of those tournaments are FIBA-sanctioned? --Howard the Duck 03:48, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
You can add the Jones Cup from 1998 results to the present... the only known Philippine result before 1998 were 1981 and 1984 where the San Miguel Philippines won the championships... the William Jones Cup and the Far Eastern Games are not a FIBA-sanctioned tournaments peads 04:02, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK, I understand now. I'm willing to leave out the Jones Cup here, but if we will include them, we should put them at "Other tournaments" that will be renamed into "Non-FIBA-sanctioned tournaments" along with the FEG. --Howard the Duck 04:15, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah I agree with you... you can put the Jones Cup results in the "Non-FIBA-sanctioned tournament" along with the Far Eastern Games... that should be fair enough.. peads 04:22, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
That's good enough for me. --Howard the Duck 04:49, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Red uniform

edit

I have yet to see a Philippine team wearing red... or maybe it's an old uniform? --Howard the Duck 11:51, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Philippine team wore red in the 2002 Asian Games. Try visiting this website for some picutes -> 2002 Asian Games - Philippine Basketball team

Shortcut

edit

You can use {{PHI-b}} {{bk|PHI}} -- it'll come up as   Philippines. --Howard the Duck 10:46, 25 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Harbour Center

edit

Should the Harbour Center RP-Team be included in this article? Leoisiah 11:12, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

You can create a Philippines national under-18 basketball team or whatever age bracket HB's team would be. --Howard the Duck 12:11, 15 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Roster

edit

If anyone can create roster navboxes for the following tourneys, it'll be great:

  • OLY 1948
  • OLY 1952
  • FIBA 1954
  • OLY 1956
  • FIBA 1959

  • OLY 1972
  • FIBA 1974
  • FIBA 1978

Why no roster?

edit

How come there is no current roster on this Page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.194.29.82 (talk) 00:13, 12 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Listed roster IS NOT YET FINAL!

edit

The roster listed in the section "Current Roster" is not the current roster. It is simply a selection pool from which, along side the Cadets team, the final 12 players will be selected prior to tournaments. BULARAN (talk) 08:39, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hidden for the meantime... –HTD 08:48, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Listed roster was damned!

edit

The roster listed in the section "Current Roster" was pissed by other unknown users. please respect the page, don't do anything with it and on it!. LUNA (talk) 10:47, 06 February 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.54.203.22 (talk) Reply

I think we should consider using the logo of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, the Philippines' national basketball federation, in the article. Articles about the national basketball teams of other countries do the same thing. (Theenjay36 (talk) 09:43, 17 September 2014 (UTC))Reply

The name "Gilas"

edit

Does anyone know what the word "Gilas" translates into English? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.161.132.66 (talk) 07:26, 11 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

The word "Gilas" can be translated into different English word such as quickness, speed, agility, swiftness, alertness, and the likes. The word "Gilas" was selected because of its' uniqueness and it shows the true character of the team that fights with their "puso" even if they are small in this sport.

Philippines men's national basketball teamPhilippines national basketball team – "Philippines national basketball team" is already enough to be the name of the article instead of a redirect. The same thing is done in most articles of other national basketball teams. But if you want to distinguish it from our women's national team, use this template on the top of the article:
{{about|the men's team|the women's team|Philippines women's national basketball team}}

Merger proposal

edit

I propose that Smart Gilas be merged into Philippines men's national basketball team. I think that the content in the Smart Gilas article could easily be explained in the context of Philippines men's national basketball team as part of the history section. Most of the content in Smart Gilas article is redundant and Smart Gilas is the Philippines men's natioanl team therefore it is like having two articles of the same topic. Thepantomimehorse (talk) 15:36, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Smart Gilas is not Philippines men's national basketball team but just a program made for the Philippines men's national basketball team, just like the PBA's Centennial program and San Miguel's Northern Cement basketball team. they should have different pages for separate references, the National Team's page is a general page of the team and there are some references/details from Gilas that should not be part of the National Team's page because only summaries of such programs are included in it. We hope you can reconsider separating such this two different pages. 24 January 2016

The roster for the World Cup qualifiers is complete.

Not done for now: See note at the bottom of the FIBA website used in the news article: "Rosters displayed do not necessarily correspond to the rosters that will play at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Asian Qualifiers. The final 12-players rosters will be confirmed following the Technical Meetings & eligibility checks, which will take place before each game." This is just the pool, not the final 12. Engr.
