Among the first settlers of this area was my ancestor, John Burnett who moved to the area with his brother-in-law Lodewick Vandermark, his brother Patrick Burnett and a friend who fought with him in the Revolutionary War, Charles Hamilton. Conversion error?

From the article:

For this preemptive right, they paid Massachusetts $1,000,000 (£300,000) (equivalent to about ${{formatnum:{{inflation|US|1|1888|r=1}}}} billion today) or 16 and 2/3 cents an acre ($41.18/km²).

which translates to "For this preemptive right, they paid Massachusetts $1,000,000 (£300,000) (equivalent to about $33.9 billion today) or 16 and 2/3 cents an acre ($41.18/km²)."

I think something is off with this template. It translates to $26 billion(US), I think $26 million(US) would be more like it. GenQuest ^{"Talk to Me"} 15:29, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

If a Massachusetts pound could buy a man's suit then 300,000 Massachusetts would be equivalent to 300 million in todays US dollar. I think the confusion comes from assuming that if we invested $300 million it would increase to 1.05^300 equals a 316 multiple so $0.3 billion would become $95 billion or $15,000 per acre Chris Dunstan cdunstan@rochester.rr.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cdunstan (talk • contribs) 14:39, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

In any case, the lead sentence has two grossly inconsistent conversions. If $1,000,000 is equivalent to £300,000, then $5000 cannot be equivalent to £12,500, unless the conversions are using two different pounds. This needs clearing up. Sicherman (talk) 21:26, 24 August 2017 (UTC)

Use term "Iroquois" or nation names

In New York, the state and federal government were dealing with identified peoples - the Five Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy: Mohawk, Onondaga, Oneida, Cayuga and Seneca, joined by the Tuscarora in 1722. These were well known; let's at least use Iroquois, or the specific nation names, such as Mohawk, Cayuga, etc. when referring to transactions related to them, rather than the generic "Native American." All the colonists knew of their claims to the lands in this region. In addition, I recommend that the article at least briefly point to issues related to 20th century land claims by these peoples, as New York state did not have the authority to treaty with them and did not get Senate ratification for some of the land deals.Parkwells (talk) 16:28, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
