Nicaraguan?

Article describes Dryococelus australis as 'a Nicaraguan species…'. This is just wrong, isn't it? Does D. australis even have anything to do with Nicaragua? Cybrspunk (talk) 23:35, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Stick Insect

... should have its own article and not redirect here. I'm surprised one doesn't exist. This article is a stub too. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.105.228.241 (talkcontribs) 17:52, 8 June 2006 (UTC).

I disagree both walking stick and stick insect redirect here. Both are just common names for a type of Phasmatodea.--Lzygenius 10:47, 14 June 2006 (UTC)"99blaa99
Both are general names for a large portion of the Phasmatodea, walking-stick is almost exclusively used in America, whereas stick insect had widespread useage in Europe.Edwbaker 17:48, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
The term "walking-stick" is also used in Sweden. (Not exactly though; we say "walkin stick" [2 words] = not hyphenated)

I edited the page to include Sweden as a country also using the term - but I was edited out. Give me a reason.Zacce 17:38, 31 October 2007 (GMT+1)

Macleay's Spectre

Seth Godin complains that there is no WP article for Extatosoma tiaratum (Macleay's Spectre) [1] [2]. Presumably it (or a link to it) belongs on this page?? --RichardVeryard 22:22, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Apparently this insect is present in the German WP. [3] --RichardVeryard 00:37, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Extatosoma tiaratum article does now exist. Edwbaker 00:17, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Phylogeny charts seem confused and/or confusing

Are competing classification systems being presented -- if so clarify this with a little intro text for each.

Also is there more than one family being discussed in the article vs. the phylogenies? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 75.6.236.160 (talk) 11:09, 12 January 2007 (UTC).

Just one classification is presented. It is however incorrect, and I believe is too detailed for the page. I plan to reduce the subordinate taxa to that listed in the Taxobox once there are articles for them. Any comments? Edwbaker 00:17, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Photos Removed

Photos of Heteropteryx dilatata moved to that article. Unidentified species have been removed. Edwbaker 16:44, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Life Cycle

They lay eggs, the eggs hatch. The insects grow from nymphs to adults then mate again! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.9.84.174 (talk) 18:04, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

I beefed up the life cycle section in this article. Could the new section in this article possibly replace the "Phasmatodea Life Cycle" article that is a stub? Eatherhay (talk) 06:42, 1 May 2011 (UTC)Eatherhay

Nice work! I've completed the merge by redirecting Phasmatodea life cycle to this article. I also added some images from Wikimedia Commons. Let me know what you think! Cheers, mgiganteus1 (talk) 13:03, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Captullum

The captullum is the nobby end of the stick insects egg. BJinsect (talk) 08:26, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

capitullum

capitullum is the proper spelling and is the fatty nob that is on the end of the egg altough the ring that separates the nob from the egg is called the opercullum. Phasmidsmantids (talk) 03:46, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

I think you'll find that the correct spelling is capitulum --Alienmarky 11:01, 21 August 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alienmarky (talkcontribs)

As pets

"Many stick insects are easy to care for, and make good pets."

How exactly are they good pets? What qualities commonly attributed to good pets that can be found in, say, cats and dogs, do they have? I wouldn't agree! --213.130.252.119 (talk) 19:11, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Some people like keeping bugs as pets (eg tarantulas). Different strokes for different folks! Abyssal (talk) 19:44, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

If these can be domesticated, then perhaps they can be bred or genetically enhanced for size. We could train them to guard our homes.Patsobest (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:37, 11 June 2010 (UTC).

How To Issues

I flagged the "As Pets" section for being "How to" because, while the information in there is good, it is presented in a tone that sounds annecdotal (apparently from personal experience) and comes accross as how to advice. For example, saying "owners will find..." is giving advice to owners of them as pets, not to the general audience of encyclopedia. If you reword it so that it sounds more like "While some species kept in captifity eat... others have diferent dietetic needs..." that would keep it in the realm of stating facts, rather than advising someone on how to rear a pet. Also, some scientific sources (not just observations from someone's personal experience) would go a long way towards making this section a lot more encyclopedic. Translate Hurricane Larry? Where is Sipyloidea?

While Wikimedia has references to the genus Sipyloidea, and there are pages on Sipyloidea larryi (Hurricane Larry Stick Insect) on *other language* editions of Wikipedia, there is NOTHING here? Not even a mention of Sipyloidea ?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.73.22.113 (talk) 19:17, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Phasmida / Phasmatodea

The Phasmida species file currently lists Phasmatodea as a synonym of Phasmida - would anyone disagree that we should change all references in this page to be taxonomically correct? Alienmarky 11:50, 25 July 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alienmarky (talkcontribs)
