Efforts to prevent erosion edit
Way back in the 1970s there was concern that the island was disappearing, and there was an effort to stabilise it with bundles of old car tyres - but I have no sources for this; only memories! Springnuts (talk) 11:20, 11 March 2021 (UTC)
Alternative spelling edit
I sailed there a lot as a youngster, and I think the island was always spelled "Pewit". However, Jack Coote's pilot book is a thoroughly RS - "East Coast Rivers" was the standard pilot book from the 1960s, but you had to write to the club at the River Deben for the up-to-date chart showing the way across the bar. But I digress. Springnuts (talk) 18:00, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
