18:05 Thursday 22 May 2008 I have reinstated the fuller version of this disambiguation page because I consider it both more interesting and more useful than the largely-exised version. As a Peter Hughes, I find myself frequently confused with other Peter Hughes's, both on- and off-line. Wikipedia is a fine location to help set matters straight. Unless there is a specific Wikipedia policy that forbids the restored content, I contend that the restored content should stand. Peter Hughes (talk) 17:07, 22 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

There are such policies and guidelines. Please read Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). The second line in the guideline page states "Disambiguation pages are solely intended to allow the user to choose from a list of Wikipedia articles, usually when searching for a term that is ambiguous." All of the entries that you restored are unlinked with no corresponding article. References are inappropriate for a disambiguation page; they are appropriate for an article which may be linked to by a disambiguation entry.
If you find an entry useful and the entity notable, please create a new article for the entry and link to it from the disambiguation page. Also, please do not link to user space from the article space, particularly for your own user page, a practice which is also covered under the Conflict of interest policy and the notability guidelines for people. Cross-namespace links are strongly discouraged. Aside from conflict of interest and notability concerns, there is no assurance that a user page actually refers to the claimed entity, and the actual person associated with a user name can and occasionally does change.
Finally, the revised introduction is overly long and chatty. The original introduction of "Peter Hughes is the name of:" is a style which is standard among disambiguation pages. Because of these policies and guidelines, I will be removing your restoration of nonstandard disambiguation entries to this disambiguation page. -- Michael Devore (talk) 03:07, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
