What is the reference for the peter=petros ? with no reference it might as well come from sanskrit - pitar and greek - pater etc. ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.62.28.62 (talk) 10:03, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can someone please confirm the vietnamese usage of Peter as an adjective? I moved it here from the Peter (name) page. Thanks. Peter 16:15, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

First name Peter

Does this article really need to list every person with the first name "Peter"? Rocksong 01:59, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

No. --Kvaks 18:17, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
No. I will remove asap. -Indolences 11:22, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't know how to link Peter Tork's name with his page. Someone explain please . . . Hmichele (talk) 16:29, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

[[Peter Tork]] would do the trick, but current consensus here is not to list or link all people with given name Peter. Please consider also the links that I posted on your talk page.--Tikiwont (talk) 16:34, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also, it seems that every time I add his name to the list of Peters, it dissapears. Why? Hmichele (talk) 16:40, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Because of me and others undoing it for above reason: This list is not intended as list of all people with given name Peter.--Tikiwont (talk) 16:43, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Then which Peters does it include? Hmichele (talk) 16:48, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

As the article states, those that are known primarily by the name Peter, typically saints, popes or emperors. The others are just too many.--Tikiwont (talk) 17:17, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

True, true. You have a good point there. Just out of curiousity, where did you get the name 'Tikiwont'? It's pretty groovy. Hmichele (talk) 17:25, 21 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I do understand what your guys are trying to do. I wish more name pages were the same but if someone searches the name "Peter" wouldn't it be fair to at least list important Peters in pop culture and society? Many of the current Peters listed are important people but I doubt 1/2 of society even knows some of these "Peters". If someone wanted to know more about Peter of Aquila they would likely use that direct name I dont understand the reason for just these select ones? Can someone explain more on why? For example, if you were to search for any character by first name from the TV series family guy (Lois, Chris, Meg or stewie) their names would be listed under their name pages. Wouldn’t it be fair to list that shows main character? In my opinion it just makes the page inconsistent with the rest. Pwojdacz (talk) 05:46, 17 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

I believe the thinking is: if they have a surname, don't list it here, because (a) the user will type in the surname, and (b) there are squillions of Peters. If they don't have a surname, do list it here, because (a) it may not always be obvious where to look (though as you point out, often it is), and (b) there aren't many of them anyway. Actually, besides what Peter (!) said, the page has in in the see also section a link to the special page listing all pages starting with 'Peter'. While there are no comments, there are so many that inlcuding them would create a cumbersome page as besides having an article or not there is really no agreed criterion what would be the 'important' ones. You can aid linking also by redirects such as Peter (Family Guy) and searching for 'peter family guy' will bring you the right article up first. --Tikiwont (talk) 08:19, 17 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Under the reasoning set forth here, I'm going to remove Peter Jackson. I doubt anyone is going to go through the Peter page to find him in wikipedia. Either they know his last name or they know one of his films through which to find his article. --JamesAM (talk) 21:12, 13 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

In keeping with the above consensus, I'm going to remove the long list of random Peters that has been added in the last month which denote people not specifically known as "Peter". Fattonyni (talk) 16:00, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Done. I've also added the special link in "See also", listing all articles with the prefix Peter -- please don't add more entries referring to people who are not known simply by the name Peter. Fattonyni (talk) 16:53, 6 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
