"Criticism"

A Google search gives only two sites that link to anything related to the criticism you've tried to include on this page. Those sites are here and here. One is a blog, another is an editorial rant from a local sports-caster in Las Vegas. Neither reference any working links to reputable news sources.

Furthermore, allowing OJ Simpson--an ex-Trojan Heisman Trophy winner and in no way a proven criminal whatsoever despite any feelings you may have otherwise--is not a "criticism". If you want to keep including this, please at least make an attempt to write it following Wikipedia's neutral point of view guidelines. As it stands, this event is completely biased, and not at all noteworthy. You make sweeping claims such as "Pete Carroll came under attack". Attack by whom? O.J. Simpson ended a near decade-long estrangement from USC's football program Saturday when the 55-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner limped toward the sideline during the Trojans' first full-contact practice for the Orange Bowl.

Simpson, who moved to Miami three years ago and is in need of knee replacement surgery, attended the practice at the invitation of senior running back Justin Fargas.

"I don't think I could ever feel disconnected from 'SC, I really don't," said Simpson, who shook hands, signed autographs and posed for pictures with onlookers.

After practice, USC players and coaches warmly received Simpson with handshakes and hugs before inviting him to their makeshift locker room.

That was followed by a loud groan throughout America. Jon Arnett and Anthony Davis, members with O.J. in the exclusive USC tailback club, ripped Simpson and told him to stay away. The LA press blasted USC officials for not preventing the meeting and endorsing it after the fact.

now YOU have decided that this is minor event -- i did not put this at the top.....i put this in for balance. clinton supporters think the monica affiar was minor....bush supporters think wiretapping is minor.

as far as your judgement of the law -- to say that o.j. simpson was "no way a proven criminal whatsoever" -- is incredible. i called him "accused murderer." - i think that is fair way to refer to him. if you prefer we can say that "simpson was found not guilty in his criminal trial but in his civil trial where new evidence was presented and simpson took the witness stand he was found liable." also one thing YOU DO NOT MENTION is your own connection with sc. you dont mention that you are a graduate and that your fiancee works for the school in its information department -- a department which is desgined to give only a postive view of sc. you a obviously a very bright and accomplished guy -- no doubt about that and i am sure you are a good guy but let's bring some balance to all this. i am not out to claim wild conspiracy theories that carroll is giving money to players under the table, responsible for illegal recruiting or slipping the players performence enhancing drugs. lets have some fair balance -- this is not suppose to be just a p.r. web site. for that you can go to pete's own web site. i don't this was written in a biased way at all. these are SUMMARIES. if you want me to make it longer, i can include the quotes from anthony daivd and jon arnett who were outraged by this. i am putting this back in. hopefully you can deal with someone putting some balance in all this.

• First of all, yikes about looking into my personal life. My fiancee no longer works at USC. I don't hide that I went to USC: it's been on my user page since I began here. These facts do not change the questionable nature and clearly biased tone of what you added. The article itself was biased before, however as well. To that I agree. I've cleaned up the entire article, including your statements, in accord with wikipedia policy. If you still disagree, so be it. I don't feel this information is terribly relevant, but after digging through the LA Times archives, I did find references here, here, and here. It was apparently a big deal to some people several years ago.
• I apologize for immediately discounting this, but it took a lot of searching to find these articles, and your writing was clearly biased.
• If I do find that the final statements regarding Carroll witholding Norm Chow's move from Leinart, I will remove that piece as well. However I will research this statement carefully. Semiconscious (talk · home) 06:49, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

fair enough....i disagree with your claim that the item was biased..and would be interested in knowing what specific parts you felt were biased....your rewrite seems ok....i might make some changes...but essentially i think that articles about people should not be p.r. pieces....this entry is still faar more postive than negative about pete carroll.....as far as "looking at your perosnal life" i simply looked at links that you provided....i didnt do anything beyond clicking on your own links...lets no let wikipedia become p.r. releases for celebrities

Recruiting Investigation

this is as easy a google search as there is -- i am curious why you focus my entry and make me have to verify what is in here -- i would be interested in knowing (since you dont have ANY interest at all in college football) you just happened to come to this entry and seem to have so much interest in this -- here is supporting info --

USC compliance officials are investigating whether NCAA recruiting violations occurred at a restaurant that is owned by a former player, a school official said Saturday.

The restaurant is Papadakis Taverna in San Pedro, where Trojan coaches often take prospective players who are visiting on recruiting trips. The establishment is owned by John Papadakis, who played linebacker for USC in 1970 and '71, and whose sons, Petros and Taso, also played for USC.

Removing myself

I'm having a hard time finding info on the recruiting information as well. As I have always stated on my personal page, I am a USC alumnus. I truly believe my edits have been from a NPOV, however I got very annoyed when User:69.231.241.253 made such harsh (and I felt POV) edits without citing sources. One of his claims turned out to be correct, with the other still undecided. I am voluntarily withdrawing myself from editing this and other Trojans football articles as my annoyance suggests I may have my own POV here. Semiconscious (talk · home) 22:36, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

like it or not there IS an investigation underway about this recruting situation. sc has acknowledged it. it belongs in here. thre is no judgement being made. when the investigations are done and the relevent bodies make their decision know that will be added

Controversy section

There was a pretty glaring problem with the issue cited in the controversy section: despite being a legitimate controversy on its own, it had barely anything to connect it to Pete Carroll, so I removed it. Let's review what it was and please tell me if this sounds incorrect:

1. Reggie Bush's parents may have accepted a gift from a potential agent,
2. the scandal broke in the public and at USC after Bush had left the school
3. The controversy section claims that this was Carroll's fault.

M'kay... while I completely agree that it should be mentioned in Reggie Bush's article, this is not something to hang a Carroll controversy section off of --it claimed he does not punish students when (1) he was already gone and (2) it didn't happen in the actual program but outside where he (very likely) didn't know. I think this is a reasonable removal, but I wanted to be clear in my reasoning so that I don't get accused of being a blind USC fan in this edit (ex: I am not touching the "Criticism" section). --Bobak 19:37, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
