Homosexuality was once considered to be a perversion edit

but is now widely seen as a natural sexual variation.

- who can say, it is really Homosexuality is [[norma]l] today? Alexandrov 10:57, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

In next sentence in article I see:

  • "The verb form of the term, in general usage, simply means to turn something away from its natural state (or what is perceived to be its natural state.)"

- it is means "Homosexuality... not means to turn something away from its natural state"? Alexandrov 10:57, 13 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

I take it from your grasp of English, Alexandrov, that it's not your first language, but I think I understand your point. No, homosexuality is not a deviation from a natural state - there is no meaningful sense in which homosexuality is not natural. It's certainly not the 'norm' (if that's what you mean by 'norma'), but only in the sense that left-handedness is not the norm. I think it would be very hard to argue that that was a perversion or deviation from a natural state. garik 16:09, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Homosexuals are several standard deviations away from the norm. Skinnyweed 19:00, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
As are plumbers and truckers. In fact there are more gays than plumbers. So, who's more perverted, anyway? Guys digging in other peoples feces and wastes, or guys simply loving guys?--84.186.252.175 00:50, 6 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well yes, they are, as I said. It's the 'not natural' claim that I strongly reject. It just seems to be an attempt to cloak belief in shoddy science. In my experience, it tends to be used by people who don't really understand evolution. garik 23:01, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Acutally, I think you are right to say that homosexuality is not "un-unatural". I mean, disease and plagues are certainly "natural". But they are not the norm nor are they a desireable state in which to live. Bill the Cat 7 (talk) 20:32, 29 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I've change the mention of homosexuality so as not to imply everyone agrees it's a perversion, since perversion has often has negative connotations these days. While it's true that it's not normal in the sense that most people do identify as homosexual, the term perversion often implies condemnation of the acts labeled as such by the person using the term. --Cab88 15:11, 8 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've gone further. The version you edited had only recently been changed/vandalised to be more homopobic. I've changed it back to what it was, but also noted that certain cultures still do regard it as a perversion. garik 23:01, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Big changes edit

This article was in a poor state. I've reorganised it, changed the wording drastically and added better references, as well as removing content that was at least borderline POV. I hope people approve. garik 00:36, 11 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
