Didnt Iran also fight the Ottomans alongside the British, contributing Iranian troops to fight alongside British ones?Azerbaijani 19:59, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Invasion of Persia ?

edit

Does anyone know if the title "invasion of Persia" is an established name for the war acitivities during WW I? Kipala (talk) 14:27, 5 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

OK, as nobody comes up with any source for the "Invasion of Persia" I take it out. The only ones who sort of invaded in 1914 were the Ottomans; aim, however was not Persia but a flanking operation against the Russian troops already in North West Persia (who had entered these parts in 1911) whereas the aim was the Russian Caucasus. This is confirmed in the article by the quoted order of Enver Pasha to Lt. Col. Kâzım Bey to let him push thru Tabriz to Dagestan. So "Invasion of Persia" looks misleading to me and has not been provided with a source Kipala (talk) 12:45, 5 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
“The Persian campaign or invasion of Iran (Persian: اشغال ایران در جنگ جهانی اول) …” Possibly this mistranslation is the origin of the problem alluded to here. اشغال/eshghāl doesn’t mean ‘invasion’; it means ’occupation’. So the correct full translation of the Persian ‘title’ is: “Occupation of Iran in the First World War”. Might be better to make this change as I would guess that it’s also historically more appropriate. 2A00:23C8:630F:6901:69E1:A2D1:F3F1:8780 (talk) 12:34, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:IRA-M1-German Treasury-12 Kran 10 Shahi on 5 Mark (1916-1917).jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on February 8, 2018. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2018-02-08. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. — Chris Woodrich (talk) 01:53, 25 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Issued during the German occupation of a small section of Iran during the Persian Campaign of World War I, this 1904 five Mark German Imperial Treasury note has been overstamped in Farsi with the denomination of 12 qiran 10 shahi for local circulation. This note is the smallest denomination in a five-note issue which included 25 qiran (overprinted on a 10 Mark note), 5 tomans (20 Mark), 25 tomans (100 Mark), and 250 tomans (1,000 Mark).Banknote: Germany (image courtesy of the National Numismatic Collection, National Museum of American History)

Persian CampaignPersian campaign (World War I) – As seen by a Google Scholar search[1] or NGRAMS results[2] the World War I campaign is not the primary topic of "Persian campaign" which should either redirect to the dab at Persian War or a new dab for the various events called "Persian campaign". Also, the Persian campaign is not usually capitalized in reliable sources, so per MOS:CAPS/WP:NCCAPS it should not be capitalized in the article title. (t · c) buidhe 14:59, 27 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Does Iran have the most deaths in World War One?

edit

They have two million deaths, which is Higher than Russia’s 1.7 million deaths which is the biggest in ww1. And I see in most places where they “all deaths from all causes” so there should be famines too. 95.0.226.6 (talk) 21:08, 29 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Farsi translation imprecise

edit

The Farsi translation of the wiki topic back-translates to “The Occupation of Iran during the First World War”, rather than “…campaign”. Wikimetothebone (talk) 11:32, 19 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
