editDidnt Iran also fight the Ottomans alongside the British, contributing Iranian troops to fight alongside British ones?Azerbaijani 19:59, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- Iran really didn't have much of any army at this time, most of their troops were under brigades commanded by British or Russian officers.--99.135.147.106 (talk) 19:55, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Invasion of Persia ?
editDoes anyone know if the title "invasion of Persia" is an established name for the war acitivities during WW I? Kipala (talk) 14:27, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- OK, as nobody comes up with any source for the "Invasion of Persia" I take it out. The only ones who sort of invaded in 1914 were the Ottomans; aim, however was not Persia but a flanking operation against the Russian troops already in North West Persia (who had entered these parts in 1911) whereas the aim was the Russian Caucasus. This is confirmed in the article by the quoted order of Enver Pasha to Lt. Col. Kâzım Bey to let him push thru Tabriz to Dagestan. So "Invasion of Persia" looks misleading to me and has not been provided with a source Kipala (talk) 12:45, 5 June 2012 (UTC)
- “The Persian campaign or invasion of Iran (Persian: اشغال ایران در جنگ جهانی اول) …” Possibly this mistranslation is the origin of the problem alluded to here. اشغال/eshghāl doesn’t mean ‘invasion’; it means ’occupation’. So the correct full translation of the Persian ‘title’ is: “Occupation of Iran in the First World War”. Might be better to make this change as I would guess that it’s also historically more appropriate. 2A00:23C8:630F:6901:69E1:A2D1:F3F1:8780 (talk) 12:34, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Persian Campaign → Persian campaign (World War I) – As seen by a Google Scholar search[1] or NGRAMS results[2] the World War I campaign is not the primary topic of "Persian campaign" which should either redirect to the dab at Persian War or a new dab for the various events called "Persian campaign". Also, the Persian campaign is not usually capitalized in reliable sources, so per MOS:CAPS/WP:NCCAPS it should not be capitalized in the article title. (t · c) buidhe 14:59, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Support Persian campaign (Alexander the Great) and Battle of Granicus would be the primary topic if anything. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:06, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

- Support with a new dab at Persian campaign. Lennart97 (talk) 18:11, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- Closing comment: There are an enormous number of incoming links to the new DAB. Any help (particularly but not only from those who proposed and supported the move) in fixing them greatly appreciated. And/or those who know ways of automating the process, drop me a line on my talk page. Andrewa (talk) 17:40, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
Does Iran have the most deaths in World War One?
editThey have two million deaths, which is Higher than Russia’s 1.7 million deaths which is the biggest in ww1. And I see in most places where they “all deaths from all causes” so there should be famines too. 95.0.226.6 (talk) 21:08, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
Farsi translation imprecise
editThe Farsi translation of the wiki topic back-translates to “The Occupation of Iran during the First World War”, rather than “…campaign”. Wikimetothebone (talk) 11:32, 19 November 2023 (UTC)
